Hey guys I just finished my first semester of my Freshmen year of college and have a GPA of 3.46. My intended major is Computer Science and I am attempting to transfer out of my current school [Rutgers-Newark] to the main Rutgers New Brunswick campus via school-to-school transfer. My grades are as follows:

Computer Science I: C+
Intro to Microeconomics: A
Logic 101: A
English 101: B
Pre-Calculus: A

I know that C+ in CS101 is bad and I honestly do not even know how I got it, but I could have sworn I did good on my final. This is what worries me, how good of a GPA is this? How much should I expect that C+ to effect my future [Graduate School, School-to-School Transfer, etc]? I am worried sick and I need some feed back. Is all hope lost?

I am probably going to end up overloading up to 20 credits and aim for all A’s next semester to make up for this… How much more would that help me? The only reason I am scared of this is because not only is it a C+, but it is a C+ in a course dealing with my major! How much should that hurt my acceptance via School-to-School transfer? I mean do they/colleges look at individual classes or your overall end of the year GPAa?

I’d say that this is a good starting point for you. A really good, respectable GPA would be 3.5+, and it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to get there. Don’t beat yourself up over the C+…I received my first C EVER this semester, and it dropped my GPA to a 3.42 (I had A’s in my 3 other classes). It happens. Luckily, there’s still time.

Yea, hopefully you are right… I am just going to study my ass off next semester and try to get all A’s… I will NEVER let this happen ever again! Hopefully this didn’t mess up my chances at a transfer… :/
