We’re in SoCal, so usually get mail sent within the state in about 2 days from date of mailing. I’ll definitely post when something arrives – although if D14 isn’t home, I won’t know what’s inside it, lol

Argh, nothing in the mailbox yet! Wish they would hurry up with the FA info already.

I thought the website said Financial Aid would come out on 4/1 on-line? Should we be looking for a packet in the mail? My daughter got FYHP from out of state. Hoping Dean’s is automatic…the video message made it sound like it was. Also crossing fingers for the Regents. Sounds like some already have heard. Have they already all gone out?

I believe Regents notifications were by email, so those went out on the 20th. There is a packet coming in the mail, should be soon, which I’m hoping has FA info in it, but don’t know for sure.

Packet came today, but no FA info, ugh! Looks like the 1st it is, and only a short time left, so just have to hang in a little longer.

I’m an international who got into FYHP, I received that notification through E-mail. However both regents and presidential scholarship notifications came through postal mail (40000$ :D).

So curious how everyone felt post Chancellor’s reception? My daughter felt that the reception, and tour 100% fit her goals and needs ---- she very happily filed her SIR last night! The breakfast mingling gave her the chance to talk to current students, and the provost of Crown college – both of which created very positive impressions. I myself quite enjoyed the conversation that I had with the provost, and feel very good about my D14 being a member of Crown college if she gets her first choice. The presentation by the Chancellor, faculty, and current students showed her that her goals and career plans can be achieved at UCSC, and she is super excited about both the regular coursework, and the FYHP opportunities.

The campus is, of course, stunningly beautiful, and I’m personally quite jealous that I’m not the one going to school there! We very happily selected her first college gear – a great UCSC zippered hoodie. She will wear it with pride!

Thanks for the report on the Chancellor’s Reception. My daughter was signed up for it but something came up and we missed it. I’m glad you had a positive impression. My daughter will most likely choose UCSC with the FYHP.

I thought the FYHP students would all be at Crown or Cowell. Did they say how FYHP students are supposed to handle the residential college preferences when they do their SIR?

That is correct, all FYHP students will be at one of those two colleges, but you still have to rank them in order of preference (plus three extra because the SIR form requires five). I read somewhere (probably in one of the links you posted) that the housing is done for FYHP first, then for the rest of the student body. They also confirmed at the presentation that FYHP students get priority registration for their classes.

Be sure your daughter responds to the email they sent a few weeks ago, asking her to accept her spot in FYHP-- apparently you need to do that in addition to filing the SIR. And summer orientation-- I think the deadline for that is June 4. My D opted for the two night program, rather than the single day-- we felt it would help her get her bearings on campus if she was there for a few days before the actual move-in weekend.

So, how many of you (accepted into FYHP) enrolled ?

Has anyone received an email yet for 2015 Honors program?
No, I don’t think they’ve sent them out yet.
Thanks @couplemoreweeks. My D did not get UCI CHP, still waiting for regular decision. Waiting for 7 schools still, all California States…
Just received this email at 5:14 on 2/27:
Dear _________,
It is my pleasure to invite you to apply to the highly regarded First-Year Honors Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. First-Year Honors Program (FYHP) participants connect with distinguished faculty mentors, participate in a year-long sequence of special honors courses, receive priority enrollment the first year, and live among other high achieving scholars at Cowell College or Crown College. In addition, you will also be considered for a Campus Merit or Regents Scholarship, contingent upon your admission and completion of a brief online application. The $20,000 Regents Scholarship paid over four years represents the most prestigious honor from the University of California.
This invitation recognizes your outstanding achievements in high school and strong potential to excel in university studies. The FYHP, offered through Cowell College and Crown College, provides an intensive and challenging academic experience, opportunities to forge social links with intellectual peers, and opportunities to discuss undergraduate research.
Acceptance into our FYHP and consideration for a Regents or Campus Merit Scholarship are contingent upon your admission and completion of the brief online application linked below. For more information see the Undergraduate Honors Program web site. If, after looking at the web site, you still have questions, please contact the Faculty Director of Undergraduate Honors Programs, Professor Matt O’Hara, at mdohara@ucsc.edu.
Please express your interest in FYHP and/or the Regents or Campus Merit Scholarship by completing the brief online application, which will require your Student ID Number listed above, no later than March 17, 2015. Admissions decisions are not tied to completion of this application, nor are scholarship considerations tied to participation in the FYHP.
If you have questions regarding this process, please call our Financial Aid and Scholarship Associate Director, Aprí Medina, at (831) 459-4196. We will e-mail final decisions by March 23, 2015.
I applaud your academic achievements and wish you best of luck as you pursue your educational goals!
Sincerely,
George Blumenthal
Chancellor
Does this mean I got in?
My son got it as well.
Don’t know what that means.
just got it. but I’m hoping for UCSD. x)
I also received the email. The application for consideration seems pretty straightforward- it mainly asks for short answers to two questions: “Please describe what you will bring to the FYHP or the campus” and “On your admissions application, you indicated that you would like to pursue a specific major or majors. Please tell us why you are interested in the major or majors. If you are undecided, please describe your broad academic interest(s)”.
The application also mentions that “Submission of this application does not impact your chances of admission to UC Santa Cruz, nor does it obligate you to accept a potential offer of admission. The submission deadline is March 17”
They report that decisions will be sent out March 23.
I got the email today, too. Does this mean I can I assume that I’ll be accepted (not to the honors program but to UCSC itself)? Also, does anyone know how many applicants to the FYHP are successful?
I got the email today as well, I’m assuming it means I’ve pretty much been accepted? What does this mean for my chances at LA and Santa Barbara?
I got the email today too as well. As it says, it does not necessarily mean you got in, but you have a good chance. @veelynne UCLA and UCSB is more competitive for admissions compared to UCSC, particularly the former. There are a lot less top applicants to UCSC, so it’s easier to get a FYHP and Regents email than from most other UCs. How good your chances are is how you are stacked compared to other applicants for those schools.
