I checked their site and they said there is a two credit requirement for your first year, are there any current students who know whether there are easier math classes than calculus for an arts and letters student like myself, because the site only really references calc. I would much rather take an Intro To The Idea of Numbers-type class. xD
I’m kind of giggling as I read this. I have a daughter who is a sophomore at ND who did take a two semester calc sequence for econ majors. My younger daughter will be a freshman next year and said she would take a class counting rocks if it would fulfill her math requirement. She will probably end up taking finite math and principles of calculus, both of which are geared towards A&L majors with no interest in math beyond the two required courses.
I had similar concerns when I first showed up at ND. Math has never been my strongest subject. I ended up taking a Calculus course my first semester, which nearly killed me. (I got a 23% on my first exam.) I switched out to Finite Math for the rest of my first semester, and then enrolled in Logic for my second semester. Both of those courses were much easier than any of the calculus classes, and they’re ideal for Arts and Letters majors.
