Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Congratulations @abasket . Those are great goals and I like how you set goals that have a variety of activities.

Great job @abasket!

5.5 miles this morning and a .6 mile dog walk. That’s all my set of dogs can handle- especially in the heat (which wasn’t too bad yet when I got them out). Work supposedly ends at 2 today and we’re off tomorrow. That might even mean ME!

4 miles today. It is hot, hot , hot! H and I are heading out to a winery soon (his idea). We did this last week (different winery) but since I usually don’t have Fridays off this won’t become a habit (I promise).

We were going to go to our local winery early evening today which has great outside grounds, but it is way too hot. Also- they have limited numbers right now due to COVID and they close the gates when they reach capacity, so it’s sort of a crapshoot. We’ll try on a weekday and I’ll just block off my late afternoon on my work calendar.

4.7 miles over on the flat, shaded path. I treated my self to the drive over there for the flatness and change of scenery from the neighborhood since it’s a day off work. Top of right foot still not normal, but not too bad. We shall see.

Why yes it is hot and humid out there
I got 40+ miles in on my bike. 28ish with a friend who’s pretty slow, and then about 12.5 quick miles on my own.
We’d planned to start right at 8:30, but we got to the place (a nature reserve) and it was closed today, but open tomorrow - weird. So we quickly figured out someplace else to go, but we didn’t start til about 9. When we got done, I decided I wanted to do a “loop” (around BWI airport for you frequent fliers), and I did that pretty quickly.
Best news of the day is I got home just as they were pulling away from our house with the excavator (or whatever that machine was) and OUR SEPTIC IS FIXED!!! I think it was about 1700 bucks all said and done, but hopefully it will be good for quite some time now.
I will likely go out early tomorrow for a fairly short ride, and on Sunday I’m supposed to be meeting up with my son and his GF in Arlington, and we are going to do a trip with multiple paths that will Into Maryland and through Georgetown and the National Zoo. I haven’t done that path in many years, so hopefully I will be able to figure it out.

^ Oh I love Arlington,Georgetown and DC. That should be a great place to ride!

2 phone interviews this week, and a second interview in-person.

I think I’d be a good fit for the job where I had the second interview. But, the pay is depressing. I would need to know the cost of health insurance so I can look at the big picture. I’d learn a lot at the job, that’s for sure, and that might help me for the next eventual job.

I did not receive an offer, but I can tell I’m in the running.

It would really turn my world (routine) upside down. That is, having a 9-5 job.

I think I’ll have a little cry, Feel sorry for myself for about 15 minutes, take another pill for my allergies and go down to the basement for upper body day.

Maybe do some weeding when it begins to cool off.

One day at a time!

We are on our way back from Arlington. I have done nothing for 2 days. Calf is feeling improved, but I may give it another full 2 days before even walking. I have some overcompensation aches in the shin splint area, but the original area has improved a lot.

I’m not sad about dropping S off. This is surprising for me. I’m excited for him. I think he will love it there. Wish it wasn’t a pandemic so he could take advantage of everything.

It was really nice not feeling like a weirdo with my head hung in shame for wearing a mask!

@ClassicMom98 why would you hang your head in shame for wearing a mask?! Is it opposite day?!

@1214mom that’s a lot of miles!!!

5k brisk walk this morning followed by some bush trimming and an hour of grass cutting. So very hot. Glad to get it all done before noon. I’m being productive inside for most of the rest of the day!

Oh and @Midwest67 it’s a trying time to interview so it is a positive sign you had a couple interviews. I hope the right thing happens for you. And that you feel mentally better. AND that it cools down for your outside time!

@Midwest67, sounds like you’re doing great given the current job situation.

@ClassicMom98, glad the move-in went well. Arlington is a great area, especially for early career folks.

Today’s main work was 20 times 1 minute on, 1 minute off on the rowing machine. Felt actually pretty enjoyable after trying very hard to do more of those longer, low heart rate things.
I’ve also been doing a lot of ankle strengthening and balance work lately and that’s been having an effect. The aches and pains in the foot and ankle seem to have subsided again so that’s good.

@abasket many people here think this is all overblown and you’re being a big scaredy cat or a mindless minion of the liberal party that wants socialism for all if you wear a mask. It’s much easier to wear them when everyone is wearing them. The difference between the two places was amazing. I would have felt like a pariah without one.

Now almost 2 hours further south we stopped at a 7-11. We were the only people besides the employees with a mask. That’s worse than my city.

But this is the fitness thread, so I climbed the stairs to my attic several times putting away the empty suitcases that served as moving boxes. That was my effort for the day.

I’m in Ohio and as of the last couple of days with COVID cases back on the rise some of the major cities are requiring people to wear masks in public places. This does not include my city - yet.

It’s frustrating though as I hear people say, because it’s not clear if this includes masks while exercising - inside or out.

Just curious what the policy is for others who might be in cities with mandatory masks. (i mean, just mandatory mean MANDATORY for everything?)

I can answer that. Most of the orders say “mandatory for inside public places and outside IF you can’t socially distance from others.”

^^^^ I wish cities would be that clear in their message!

Finished the Runners World streak this morning with a 7 mile run with 3 of my friends. Total mileage was 142.52 miles for a daily average of 3.45.

I love the idea of a run streak and it was very motivating, but I need an occasional rest day. I thought of continuing but have decided not to. Running is ingrained enough in me at this point that I will run 5 day a week or so regardless.

Great job on the streak. As many of you know, I run every day, and it is certainly not a good idea for most people (probably not for me). It is easy to tell yourself that you will take a “rest” day and “just do the one mile”, but I always seem to have some other reason I need to do more and have trouble really taking a “rest” day. My longest streak was 1045 days ending in a high hamstring injury. None of my docs blamed the streak. Injuries happen… Currently I’m approaching 100 days.

8.6 miles this morning with the running group. Well, I saw them and actually had people to be near for the first half. Most turned to do 10K and I wanted more distance so I lost them at that point. Popsicles at the end! It was a different route for me with a nice path. Decent shade for much of it.

Working without a day off here and lost track of days and posting.

Thursday’s are typically optional active recovery or rest days, but my car needed 4 new tires and my gym is only about a mile away from the tire place, so…Thursday was bench press and squat day! I also ran some mileage on the treadmill and did weighted GHD sit-ups.

Yesterday was a 10-min combo of a DB snatch ladder and rope climbs. And then 5 rounds of rowing for calories and 10-rep front squats.

We’ll see what today brings, but bench press, deadlifts, running, muscleups and burpees are on the list.

Happy 4th of July to you all! Stay healthy out there.
