Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I have a dilemma  An Apple Watch dilemma

So today I walked 9 holes of golf, socially distancing with my 80 year old neighbors, who are amazing but it wasn’t fast.

I will close my ring for activity but it says I only have 20 minutes of exercise right now.

Do I jump on the treadmill for 10 minutes or do I try and not be OCD about it?

@MomofWildChild need not answer as I know her response ?

LOL. Treadmill it is!

@deb922

You can always come to me if you need a permission slip to get out of doing some cardio!

I am probably the thread’s most reluctant “exerciser”.

No, not by a long shot. I can’t think of a single thing I’ve been doing for so long that I actively dislike so much. If I didn’t have kids I wanted to do activities with, didn’t need to be fit to do adventurous travel and sports, didn’t feel better afterwards and if I wasn’t fairly certain I’d weigh 100 pounds more than I do and die 30 years earlier than I will otherwise, I’d never exercise again. Never.

We should start a club. The Reluctants.

@milee30

Ha! Ok! Let the club be officially formed!

Work was getting in the way of me hiking for many Sundays in a row, then the pandemic came swooshing in. The hiking club is on hiatus until…who knows.

Zero cardio. Just the Barbell. Even that? It’s like taking medicine.

Reluctantly yours,

Midwest67

And yet this cardio person admires ^^^ your strength training! I ALWAYS choose cardio over anything else. It a fault of sorts. It would be more beneficial to balance it out more.

Yep, @deb922 I’d be doing 10 minutes on the treadmill or 10 minutes up and down all the stairs in the house!

I did the 10 minutes on the treadmill. But once those rings were closed, I was done for the day. In more than one way.

I am always the reluctant exerciser. But I try.

Set up the treadmill with TV/screen. No TV/netflix et all unless you are moving. A deal with the devil LOL.

Last week when the recycling truck came through our neighborhood, they must not have dumped into the truck very well, because when I was riding my bike I notice glass and other debris in front of many houses. I was trying to be careful, but Saturday when I went to ride, I had a flat.
So, no more outside riding in my neighborhood for awhile. It’s not a great place to ride anyway, but now that means I have to put my bike on the car to ride, and figure out a place to go, so I likely won’t be riding much except on weekends. I can still use my indoor bike, but now that it’s getting nicer, it would be great to spend more time outside.
I plan to walk 4 miles or so today, and who knows what else. It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day.

@1214mom Well that stinks. I know every locality is set up a bit different, but here you could call our public works office and (nicely) let them know what happened and they would send the street sweeper truck over. Even if the recycling truck is private, the condition of the roads should still fall to the locality/state

My run today was stinky. I didn’t sleep well. Allergy headache. And it was hot and gross. But it was a run and I was ok with it. It’s Monday. But my video workout rocked! It was a total body push/pull. Lots of fun stuff and I could do it all except the chin-ups/1 leg knee tucks. I could do 6-8 to their 12. And on the burn out I did sets of 3 pull-ups/5 push-ups instead of 5/5 (for 3 min) Good enough for me. But it was so much fun. And now I’m at work in my den. Whee…

And if I didn’t do it first thing, it wouldn’t happen. I want to be a house cat. Just curl up in my recliner and sleep all day. But no cat food. Pizza and chocolate and cake and cookies - oh and giant Reese’s cups.

Thanks for the suggestion @ClassicMom98. I honestly don’t recall ever seeing a street sweeper in our neighborhood, but they must have them.
Will try to look them up today.

Cardio vs strength training? Why not combine both with kettlebell complex workouts. 5 exercises, 5 reps, 5-6 rounds. Then lay on the floor and whimper.

4.2 outside miles before a work call. Felt better today. Still need to lower HR and slow down (more).

Oh dear. I hope it never comes to that!

Any suggestions for a tag that holds a lot of info? I carry a small wallet in my pocketbook with history, meds and contacts, but obviously I don’t carry that everywhere.

Even the “brief” summary on a tag isn’t enough.

I think RoadID has some sort of interactive tag that they scan and there is more information.

A “compromise” is that when lifting, you do a EMOM (every minute on the minute) or every 90 seconds type workout, shortening your rest periods to get your heart rate up during your lifting sessions.

I did my usual 5K on Sunday. My strides felt like they were really short, since the old legs felt stiff and sore from the week. Saturday’s workout was a speed workout of a 1 mile run, 50 pull-ups and 30 squat clean thrusters aka “clusters.” And I did bench press for the strength portion of my session.

Lots of compound movements, lots of large muscle groups involved, upper and lower chain, lots of oxygen debt. It’s funny, I’m training for a KB instructor certification and the coach I am working with prefers that I don’t spend a lot of time cycling (my normal form of cardio) so as to avoid tightening hip flexors, impacting hip and shoulder mobility. When I asked her how I was going to get my cardio in, she just gave me a wicked little grin.

3.5 miles on the trail.

My allbird dashers came in today. Pros: very cute, nice and supportive. Good cushioning.
Cons: the lacing system, I wish that they had lacing like my brooks. I have a narrow heel and wish I could lace them better, so I can get my heel snug.

I think I can wear them and see how they preform for me. And return if they don’t work out.

I ordered a few pairs of the Allbirds socks that go with the Dashers. They came today and I REALLY like them. I’m picky about socks. These are light, fit well and will be perfect for summer.
