Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Duh. Of course!

I just walked a couple of gloomy miles today, maybe 4 but not my normal route.
I have done some weights too, but not as much as I would like to.

I eat roughly 2500 Cal/day Sunday through Friday. Saturdays I’m not sure I want to know. I would guess around 5000 on average if restaurant menus are to be believed. (blush)

Edit - and I’m 5-10 and 47 year old female. I run/lift quite a bit and carry a fair amount of muscle. I don’t own a scale but I am usually roughly 140 lbs at the doctor/gym. 135 when I’m running light and 145 when I start to feel frumpy.

Felt sore after my fall yesterday but walked the golf course while the husband played. Closed my rings.

easy day today. Very slow jog before the range and recover video and then a short yoga video.

We are now - well almost - the proud owner of a power rack. H was bored and peeked in the windows of old gym on Monday. It was foreclosed on almost 2 years ago. It’s mostly stripped bare, but there were two power racks still there, including his favorite! He called the realtor who called the owner (2000 miles away) and they agreed to take $200 for it. H will pick it up in an hour. Now we just need weights. Lol. But he has a lead on a bar. And older S might have a lead on some plates. H is very excited. Oh yeah - and also a super sturdy bench for $20. It doesn’t look like much, but the padding is great and it’s solid. Our adjustable bench is really good. But these were the bomb in the day.

@ClassicMom98

OMG! What a score! Congrats!

Very cool on the power rack! Sounds like you are building quite the gym!

4.1 outside miles this morning- cool and cloudy. Did better than yesterday and ran the whole way. Will do a little more later on the treadmill to progress in my Race Across Tennessee. The thing started in Arkansas, but somehow I got across the Mississippi River (did I swim?) and now am in Memphis. The race has a cool map where you can locate yourself. On a Zoom conference all afternoon. Ugh.

@ClassicMom98 Awesome! See if they have some collars, j-hooks and change plates too.

Walking on water, @MomofWildChild ! ?

Got a very nice powerwalk in last night. It was close to 70 degrees and super nice! We were motivated to walk fast by the gloomy clouds moving in from the southeast… they did deliver quite a thunderstorm later in the evening!!

Rode my indoor bike for an hour today and did a lot of stretching exercises too.
I was having some pain from my left hip to the outside of my knee, but the stretching seems to have helped.

Light person checking in. Well not so light in the weight department, but getting there! I am pretty confident I will reach the goal weight I want before WW meetings resume in person. I am doing daily weigh ins at home, but with the clothing and scale variability removed, I will feel better when I get their official reading. It will tell me how much more I need to get to my lifetime weight. I estimate that is about 15-20 lbs additional.

As for exercise, the big exercise in the past week has been building a deck. Lots of soreness. Even if it is mostly carrying some planks around, my main job is holding the board in or out as DH nails it in place. Those are my isometric exercises. I took a hot bath last night to help with the muscles. That is basically the extent of the exercise right now, did get in one or two walks or yogas.

IDs- I need to get a new one. I have type 1 diabetes and I got a nice medical bracelet soon after being diagnosed 20 years ago, when it broke I didn’t replace it. Yeah, I know I need to do that. I don’t plan to list all my issues on it, just the T1D and insulin pump. Which leads to what I carry. I need to have some form of fast acting carbs with me most of the time, but don’t when I go for a walk in the neighborhood. Longer hikes even the short 1 hour one I have a good supply. Also carry my blood meter, extra layers, water etc. Because of the need to carry stuff most of the time, when it is close and short, I tend to be more reckless and go without.

Check the set up of your indoor bike, is it adjustable? Is it a real bike or a spin bike?

3.5 miles on the trail, but struggled with breathing.

(Last week I felt industrious so I started washing kitchen windows. The stool I was using to reach the top of the window over the kitchen sink slipped out from underneath me, and I dropped ribs first onto the corner of the counter. Nothing likely cracked as it feels better every day. Figured an x-ray probably not worth it as they can’t immobilize false ribs anyway.)

^^^ That sounds very painful.

Ouch! @bluebayou

3.2 miles at the trails.

I’ve decided that I don’t like the allbirds and I’m returning them. I had heel slippage and I thought they didn’t have great traction on the trails. The trails are still covered in leaves and I was slipping going up hills.

I only buy one pair of running shoes at a time and these are not an only shoe situation. I didn’t even like them enough to keep them.

I also felt a bit of it band tightness. Just not the shoe for me.

That’s my shoe review if anyone finds it interesting

The studio owner of the yoga studio where I practice has been offering virtual workshops. I took a 90 minute class on stretching for lower back pain. We also did lots of yoga poses–triangle, downward dog, pigeon, etc. This is the third time I’ve taken this workshop and my back (which gets tender–not painful) feels great afterward. The instructor said the one of the reasons folks get back pain is because they have weak glutes. So we did lots of exercises for glute strength. Has anyone heard this about connection between glute strength/low back pain? Also, the instructor recommended a book by Esther Gokhale, 8 Steps to a Pain-free Back. I took a regular (on demand) flow class earlier today.

“ Has anyone heard this about connection between glute strength/low back pain?“

Glutes are one of the first targets of PT therapists working with patients experiencing low back pain.

yeah, it was. (I guess they are right about the majority of accidents happening at home!)

Thanks mom and deb.

I almost always have two pairs of running shoes so I can trade off.

@Sybylla, my “indoor bike” is my Cannondale synapse road bike, attached to a 26 YO thing that makes it an indoor bike. (I got the indoor bike part when I was pregnant with my first child - who just turned 26 is the only reason I know that). I don’t think the pain is from that.
I think the pain is the result of doing a fair amount of new exercises/yoga since I’ve been stuck at home.
