The diversity in Marist is low according to my research and a visit to Marist.
I’m Asian and an international student. The percentage of international student is like 1%. It might be quite intimidating because I’m the minority. I’m also an introvert which makes it harder for me to make friends.
Do you think it would be difficult to fit in at Marist in this case?
I’m a current Marist student with a good amount of experience in picking up and starting over. What I love about Marist is that there are so many ways to meet new people and make great friends! There are over 80 clubs on campus which gave me lots of choices, I ended up being part of dance and ambassadors which is a club that works closely with admissions and incoming students. Through these clubs I met a great group of friends and then through class I was able to make friends through study groups. The thing to remember is that everyone is on the same boat once they get to college, most people are worried about making friends. My advise is to join clubs you like and create fun study groups
Marist offers many opportunities for students of different interests and backgrounds to get involved! The best way to meet people and keep busy on campus is joining the many clubs on campus. I have made many, many friends by getting involved, and it is a very easy and comfortable environment to put yourself out there and be yourself!
It’s great that you are an international student! I am a Marist student and my freshman class represented around 27 different countries. There was a girl from Ghana that lived on my floor and it was so great getting to know her. She made friends with a lot of the other international students as well. Don’t worry about ever feeling left out because it is almost impossible with all of the clubs and organizations not to get involved!
It would not be hard at all to make friends at Marist. We have over 80 different clubs and organizations to choose from if you want t get involved wit those. Also the RA’s and the RD and mentor of each building put on programs to help the students, especially freshman, get involved and to meet as many people as possible especially within your building. Also, you can meet people in group projects in certain classes you may have everyone is friendly and always inviting to meeting other people no matter what year they are or where they come from. And there are a lot of international on campus I am friends with lots from Britain, Somalia, even Barcelona. So don’t feel like you would be one of only a few international students on campus cause there are a lot here at Marist.
