There is no Greek life and Football and partying will be isolated to lower campus and near the stadium during game days. You will find your niche and no one will care about you or what you like. You’ll find your group and fit in.

How well would a girl who might be considered a little ‘nerdy’ fit in? If she talked about lord of the rings wd she be looked at askance?

Don’t worry you’ll find your group of friends in time. You might even become friends with some people who you wouldn’t have expected to. There’s plenty of the slightly “nerdy” type at BC as there is at any other school.

how big is the D1 football vibe at BC? does it dominate?

I highly suggest getting season football tickets. I think this year BC changed to the “Gold Pass” which gives you access to a number of sports other than football. Football is pretty big at BC, though the morale has been low in the past few years with all of the losses. We have a new head coach finally so there is still hope for turning the program around but it’s not going to be overnight. The football games are a great freshman bonding experience.

As far as partying, it’s going to be tough being a freshman. However, you’re in a better position being a girl than the freshman guys. Likely, your night will consist of pregaming in your room and then going to another freshman’s room (though you have to watch out for RAs) or venturing to the mods. The mods are senior housing. You’ll see a bunch of other freshmen/sophomores wandering around looking for a mod to get into. Sometimes you get lucky and do, but sometimes you walk back to your dorm in disappointment. Don’t worry because you’ll make a good group of friends and every year the nightlife gets better. Fortunately, I’ve finally earned my spot in the mods.
