I recently got accepted to FIU as a transfer (It was one of my many backup schools) for the Spring of 2022. I will be majoring in Computer Engineering if I go there. I was wonder what the reputation of FIU is like in the engineering world? I enjoyed the diversity at FIU and noticed that there was people from all across the globe. FIU is predominantly hispanic (even admission says that they favor hispanics) so I wonder if that will effect me since I’m not hispanic? FIU obviously isn’t the hardest college to get into. That being said I was wondering how a school like FIU would effect my chances in my career. FIU Isn’t really known except in a few places. I was told that because of the overall reputation of FIU it isn’t treated like other respected engineering schools. For anyone who went there or is familiar with the engineering program. Did it hurt you? Did it help you? How is the education quality? Pros? Cons? Any regrets? How is the alumni network? Thank you!
FIU is a great university and continues to improve in its rankings. I’ve heard positive feedback on the engineering program over the years. You might want to contact them directly for names of alums you can speak to about their experience. My son is a junior in the business school and is thoroughly enjoying the program and all of the connections he’s made from all over the world. Good luck with your decision.
