Hi!

Alright, so I am currently trying to decide between attending Florida International University and University of Florida. I've read several of the posts on both, but still can not make my decision. I really want to go to a college with great academics, a lot of diversity, and is not too rowdy.

Any advice between the two?

Have you gone to visit the schools?

I have visited FIU(im from Saint Louis,MO) and really liked the campus. Really pretty, lots of palm trees and the buildings look very up to date.As far as academics go, im not exactly sure. From my take of FIU, its not the greatest academic school, but I wouldnt classify it as a party school. Its somewhere in between. Keep in mind FIU is a commuter school, as most of the kids come from the Miami-Dade area and about 4k out of 36k live on campus. I can’t say much about U of Florida, as I never applied/looked there. Unless you are looking for a more prestigious school school, I would go with FIU. Miami is such a cool city, and the campus is located right in the middle. It is about 15mins from south beach and only about 20 from Miami International airport.

If you are really looking for diversity, FIU is where to go. Miami is an international city, hence the name. I saw people of all races on my campus tour

Hi this is about three months too late but here is my advise anyway. I have been researching these two schools for the last two years and finally decided to take UF off my list because of several reasons. The first being that it is a college town with not much going on around the vicinity of Gainesville, unless you are really into football ( Go Gators!!). Its about five hours away from Miami, which is very much full of diversity and culture that makes living there worth it. There is a huge difference in location on that front. Also while UF is a good school for certain areas, Its lacking in it programs like communication. But there is something to cherish about UF and that’s the bond that you will find with everyone whereas FIU for the most part is a commuter school, right now. FIU has become more selective, prestigious, number one ranked for Business, being the best buy University in the nation, and the number one school with the highest amount of Hispanic graduates. Yes, This school is kinda dominated by Hispanics. But other cultures are most certainly there. Along with that, they have amazing Study Abroad programs taking you anywhere from Tokyo, Japan to the Dominican Republic( My Family’s home country). It is a very respectable college that in the heart of a city that will end up offering you more jobs and internships while working there which is a must if you plan on having a career in Miami. Lots of experience for the jobs there. However learn how to budget there. Good look and I hope that you have fun in whichever one you choose.

¿que lo que, loko?

Fiu all the way go panthers!

Golden Panthers all the way

I’m from Miami and i can assure you UF is the number one academic school in Florida, with a much more developed graduate program and its freshman come in with a higher GPA and SAT scores than at FIU. everyone that i know that goes to FIU(and FSU for that matter) goes there because they didn’t get into UF.

Since FIU is deemed a commuter school are there a lot of frat party’s?? on campus party’s?
