I am in a situation choosing between these two schools. I do not know what I am going to study or major in. I live in South Florida. I'll be posting in both the FSU and UF forum. Money is not an issue in deciding as they will be the same cost to attend.

What do you think would be the better university to attend?

This question has been asked dozens of times before (both are great and it comes down to fit). But the UF vs. FSU debate always seems to get ugly.

I know this question may sound ridiculous, but can you please tell me what you mean by visit the campus? How would you suggest I do it? Go with a friend or with my parents? Contact a friend living at the campus and ask if I can spend a couple days with him? Go to the main department and register for a tour? Thanks!

I would like to hear more opinions on this too!

lol, the countdown-and then everyone begins. @hurley, you like shinning on the rhetorical questions, don’t you? lol

@satwizard, like ssobick said, their both great. it depends on what you like overall, take a campus tour, research your major in their departments; see if they have any good programs that will benefit you. many asked this before, and since you are on the UF forum, UF may be the answer you shall receive.

Both have intense Student Governments, strong Greek Life, numerous student organizations, great athletics, and are both residential campuses with alot of on campus living.

Even though FSU is located at the state capitol it is still very much a college town.

UF & FSU have more in common than most people think…

The real question is “Can you stand that constant Na-Na-Nanana” sound with the drums beating while you wave your tommahawk hand front to back. Personally, that would drive me INSANE because I can barely take it for the brief time I hear it in the stadium.

I think it really depends on what you want to do. As someone mentioned earlier, making a decision based on USNWR rankings is not the way to do it. In some programs, UF is stronger, in some FSU is stronger, both are good schools. It depends on what fits you. I know for me, I didn’t like UFs campus and FSU is better for what I want to pursue as a major. I have no hatred of UF; it just wasn’t a good fit. Visit both schools, evaluate them, and then make your decision.

My son is graduating next weekend from UF, and has a job lined up in Jacksonville in banking.

In his interview process, he was told by many across the state that UF’s graduates are highly respected and recruited, so I don’t know why the lol comment.

Some of his friends from other schools are still looking, including a Rice grad (in the same major as my son), so I don’t think UF kids are somehow handicapped in attaining employment.

As to your question - it really depends on your major, so chose the school that has the best program for what you are interested in pursuing.

Funny how the FSU - UF rivalry is like the UT - A&M rivalry - both good schools, with great programs, but boy do they hate each other!! ;)

The person I quoted was implying that UF graduates will have better job opportunities than FSU grads, and that is what I responded to. How you do in college and what you do will get you the job. What school you go to does not matter much, if at all, when taking into consideration two well-regarded flagship unis. I didn’t say UF grads are handicapped. Don’t put words in my mouth. lol
