I am in a situation choosing between these two schools. I do not know what I am going to study or major in. I live in South Florida. I'll be posting in both the FSU and UF forum. Money is not an issue in deciding as they will be the same cost to attend.

What do you think would be the better university to attend?

This question has been asked dozens of times before (both are great and it comes down to fit). But the UF vs. FSU debate always seems to get ugly.

Agreed.
That made the decision easy for me.

I really would not concern myself with this for undergrad.lol Any differences both schools have in the quality of their programs are generally going to be minimal, and no one can say matter-of-factly that one program is better than the other. Even if someone could magically be in all of the programs at each school in the same amount of time and compare them on that basis…it would still be an opinion. It is better to look at all aspects of each school before deciding than listen to some arbitrary and dumb opinions about which programs are better than others in an undergraduate context.

I know this question may sound ridiculous, but can you please tell me what you mean by visit the campus? How would you suggest I do it? Go with a friend or with my parents? Contact a friend living at the campus and ask if I can spend a couple days with him? Go to the main department and register for a tour? Thanks!

I would like to hear more opinions on this too!

You can’t do preview now, but you can still go there, take a tour, and perhaps meet with some students & faculty. You can go with a friend or parents. I went with my mom. You can register for a campus tour online.

I’m not really sure how staying with a student there works, but I found this on the housing FAQs:

"May I have guests in my residence hall room?

Guests are permitted in the halls only at the request of residents, who then become responsible for their visitors’ conduct. All guests must abide by University and hall regulations applicable to the resident host. Guests of the same gender as the resident host may stay overnight in student rooms provided that each resident of the room to be used gives his or her permission. Guests may not stay in University housing for more than three days in any thirty-day period, except by permission of the residence coordinator or hall director.

How can my friends and family visit me in the residence hall?

Each hall has a call box at the front door. From this box, guests can dial the student’s phone number to ask the student to come down to open the door. If the guest does not have the resident’s number, he or she can call the front desk receptionist number, which is posted at the call box. Because of our commitment to campus safety, guests will not be allowed to wait for the student in the resident’s room if the resident is not present. However, guests can wait in the hall lobby."

well, gainesville is a nice little college town. lots to do. i love paynes prairie, the harn museum, and the restaurants
tallahassee is pretty boring. i like lake ella, but that’s honestly all i can name.

Both have intense Student Governments, strong Greek Life, numerous student organizations, great athletics, and are both residential campuses with alot of on campus living.

Even though FSU is located at the state capitol it is still very much a college town.

UF & FSU have more in common than most people think…

You are kinda running out of time, so yeah, Plan a trip to visit both schools in one weekend. You can take a tour and also meet with academic advisors.

How can anyone say that Gainesville is better than Tallahassee? LMAO

Gainesville is an awful town with two main roads and nothing to do. Tallahassee is a real city with a tons of stuff to do, and actually has more colleges than Gainesville, making it a bigger college town. Even my friends that chose UF, admit that Tallahassee and FSU are way more fun.

Isn’t Gainesville’s nickname “Hogtown”? That sounds like a real backwoods place.
