I ended up in Fletcher Hall for this year. What is it like especially for freshmen making the college transition?

It’s small and you’ll get to know everyone living there. It’s a pretty far walk to the nearest dining hall though. Try not to take classes in the MLB. That’s a solid 20-25 minute walk.

My three best friends lived there last year. From what I gathered, there were more sophomores than freshman. I think there are two all girls floors and two all guys floors. Not sure how social it is in general. My friends didn’t really get to know anyone BUT that’s totally their fault…they remained pretty antisocial.

Anyway. The rooms themselves are pretty nice. There is a good amount of storage space (four closets, a medicine cabinet, and lots of space underneath the sink. And I think all the rooms have sinks.) The basement’s pretty nice, too, with a full kitchen and I think a pool table and a piano. There’s also a little computing site with a few macs and pcs and a couple of printers (and it’s the only place in the building with AC apparently. I wish I’d known this about my dorm last september…)

As for distance to dining halls, west quad is only like a 10-12 minute walk if you’re going fast. But you don’t really need to worry about walking too much, at least not during the day, b/c the commuter north bus stop is right across the street. It’ll take you to the union in ~3 mins and to the CC Little stop (right down the street from MLB) in only a little more than that.

It is isn’t exactly the best dorm for freshmen. It’s actually on South Campus, not Central. It’s tiny and there aren’t many other students and like previously stated, there are a good number of sophomores who probably aren’t looking to meet new people. Also, you need to take a bus to most classes and there is no dining hall. The only realy advantage is you’re close to the football stadium so on game days it’s easy to get home. North campus is preferable since at least like 60% of the freshman class ends up being there. My advice would be to swap rooms with someone or join a waitlist for North. Some sophomores in Ross may want to live in Fletcher because it is sort of close by and may want to swap. And for the waitlist a good number of people move to central in the beginning of the year so many rooms open up in Bursley and Baits

I actually, now that I think about it, I agree about trying to switch into Bursley. I kind of forgot that room swapping was even an option. Oops. But Bursley would really give you a better, more “traditional” freshman experience, I think. The necessary bus rides if you’re an LSA student aren’t ideal, but there are many, many other freshmen who have to do the same thing. Plus not having a dining hall in the dorm (or within a short walking distance) IS a real inconvenience that you’ll want to think about.
