I'm an Honors kid who got stuck in Fletcher Hall for some reason. I'm dying to get a room swap or something (anybody wanna do one?) so I can get into South Quad. I'm just wondering how bady Fletcher is. It sounds pretty bad to me.

Pros
-The IM building is right across the street from you...
(thats a gym if you didnt know...I personally think its a lot better than CCRB)
-Lack of front desk makes sneaking in alcohol tremendously easy
-Builds community because you're so small and everyone there got screwed
-Close to Big Ten burrito
-Close to football stadium...cool only during football season
-Close to all other stadiums for that matter

Cons
-No cafeteria..closest is South Quad which is maybe a 5-10 minute walk
-About a 10 minute walk to the Diag and classes...can be killer when weather is bad or when you're feeling lazy
-In general, sorta far and isolated from campus being a dorm building
-Small building has its disadvantages
-Its not south quad

I think Fletcher sounds pretty cool. It seems to me like it's almost like having an apartment off campus, without actually having one. I have a friend that is going to be living there who you will undoubtably get to know seeing as there are only 75 of you and she is an incredibly fun girl and a party animal. Actually, I hope I get to have a few fun nights over there in Fletcher Hall.

My friend lived there last year and she absolutely hated it (so much that she'd stay over in my room a lot). Basically its always really loud and everyone is drunk a lot. Its like a good 15-20 minute walk from central to there. You also have to to pass a ton of frats to get from there to central campus, so its kinda scary to walk there late at night. The rooms are pretty tiny as well. She spent most of her time at central campus anyways and didnt get to know anyone there, really. I guess it's good if you're the party/alcohol type of person..but she def. isn't.

Sounds like my kinda place.

****. Now I want to get a bunch of my friends and hijack Fletcher. That would be very cool for a couple weeks...

I guess if it's a party place, it'd be cool for me. But do Fletcher kids feel isolated from campus? It's so goddamn far from everything. And I really hate that there's no dining facility in the dorm. How will me, a Florida boy, survive in the winter? Please, somebody swap with me!

I thought you lived in State College for a couple years? They don't have winter there?

yeah, but from what I hear, AA is much colder. And plus, it's been 6 years since I've touched snow. heck, I don't even own a long sleeve shirt right now that's not a dress shirt.

Yes, it is pretty isolated..and no one likes waiting for the bus in winter, so you either hang out a lot in central or just stay at fletcher. yes and not having a dining hall there makes it very incovienent at times.

do athletes live in Fletcher at all cuz its so close to the athletic facilities. That wouldn't be too bad.

No, probably none actually. Most athletes lived in West Quad the past few years.

Fletcher is a great place, It is close to the library, the chem bldg., the french fries and the plaza; who can beat the $3 Hare Krishna lunches. Across the street is a bagel shop, pita pit, steamers and a convience store who is opened quite late. Besides you are in a historic landmark building....that's not common in fla.

I'm just worried that I'll feel isolated from the rest of campus being in Fletcher.

Some of my best friends, including the president of my fraternity, lived in Fletcher and they loved it for the afore mentioned reasons. You will make friends, and everyone I know who lived in Fletcher joined the Greek system, so it is filled with cool people.

um....i am also honors but i ended up in oxford....all i have to say is boo

So, there is a workout facility in the IM building? Is it free?
Also, how close are these restaruants you guys are talking about? Are they cheap?
Lastly, do you think I should switch my meal plan if I live in Fletcher? I have the Any 13 plan right now, but with no dining facility, it seems kinda pointless. What would be a better one? Can I switch once school starts?
Thanks.

bump.........

Working out at the IM building is free, all you need is to be registered for classes. You can rent lockers, they're like 25 cents and at the lockers in the cardio room you get your quater back when you return the key and such.

IM building hosts volleyball courts/basketball courts (same place), rock climbing wall (you have to pay for that), and in my opinion and excellent free weights section. Theres also raquetball courts and I think a swimming pool.

Food. Big Ten Burrito (BTB) is cheap. Theres alot Cottage Inn pizza really close...$7 gets you a large pizza. Subway, Jimmy Johns, and Ali Babas. Ali Babas is a arabic place...delicious chicken swarmas but its more expensive.

You can switch meal plans anytime you like.

Does anybody have a campus map that actually has a scale on it? It's so hard to figure out how far everything is away from Fletcher.
