Is it worth living in the Honors dorms? How are the community bathrooms? Also, does anyone know anything about the Fletcher dorm building?

Ewww sick, is honors a community bathroom floor? I hate using public bathrooms to wash my hands, I can't even imagine taking a shower in one of those places...

yeah all dorms have bathrooms in each hall..you don't get your own. Honors dorm is south quad and yes it is worth it because you're right on central campus. Fletcher is a bit far of a walk from central campus. Also, Martha Cook is an all-girls dorm that also offers the honors option..the rooms are the biggest on campus and it is the closest to everything...

There's a good chance I'd go crazy in an all girls dorm. Are the bathrooms decently kept or does it get sorta gross?

ohhh epsilon...

you'll soon realize all standards you thought you had go out the door early welcome week

welcome to college :-)

The bathrooms in South Quad are very well-kept imo, pretty much everything gets cleaned once a day, disinfected twice a week, and so on, you might actually be able to find that kind of info online. My janitor is pretty good about stuff too, he's around a lot and you can talk to him. So yeah, community bathrooms here aren't a problem.

Fletcher is right next to the IM Building, almost exactly south of South Quad. It's a 5-10 minute walk away. Martha Cook is very nice but also more expensive. Christine should post more; she's currently living there.

If I were you I would opt for honors housing. There are really no negatives and a bunch of benefits.

Yeah I'm living at martha cook right now..and yes the bathrooms are decently kept for the most part. It is nice and big..but you have to keep in mind..it will definately be a different experience than south quad. I wouldnt call it anti-social..but it is a lot quieter and a lot of people do like to keep to themselves..

So like the bathrooms are clean right?

I'm a germaphobe, I hate using public bathrooms. Oh well, I can live with it. It's Umich. :)

So long as those things are clean I'm happy. I would never want athlete's foot, that's mother frikkin disgusting.

Anyone else a fellow germaphobe?

I was definitely a germaphobe and still am in some ways, but living here is really NOT bad at all... you get used to it quickly

lol. I am when it comes to bathrooms. The bathroom situation is my major issue with UofM. I want to do pre-med, which WashU is obviously amazing at plus they have the best dorms so I was pretty set on going there. I spent the whole summer there taking gen chem 2 and hated St. Louis so much so I'm willing to suck it up and deal with community bathrooms to not live in St. Louis.

Yeah, although I am a germaphobe, I can change my habits.

Whenever I use a public bathroom, I usually take paper towel out of the dispenser to turn on the faucet, throw the towel away, wash my hands vigorously for at least 15 seconds (that is, after all, the policy at the hospital I volunteer at) and then use a paper towel to get more paper towel, and then i open the bathroom door with the paper towel. And I know others do the same, because there is always a huge pile of towels at the door. (this is at Oakland university, btw)

At the hospital, it's totally wireless. The faucets are automatic, the soap is automatic or foot-activated, the towels are dispensed automatically, and there either aren't any doors or the doors open from inside out so that you can just kick it open. :)

north campus is the shiznitttt.

Wear flip-flops in the showers. West Quad trumps all other dorms.

Jenny, if you want cleanliness and nice a dorm, then you would like martha cook. If you'd rather have the social scene..than south/west quad are the best.

East quad is great. I know that right now the RC and another residential college are ther ebut there are apparantly empty rooms right now. IT's nic ebecause it's on campus, close to things like pinball pete's, NYPD (New York Pizza Depot), and three coffee shops! (four if you count Rendezvous Cafe which is also a hookah bar). East quad also has two cafeterias and a cafe in the basement, so you don't have to leave the building to have meals. Really nice!

does anyone know what the markley house is like? isn't that where most freshmen go

most freshman go to Markley or Bursley. I dont live in Markley, but i hear its crazy. As for shape it looks kind of like a "H". The rooms are bigger in Bursley

There are about 2500-3000 freshmen between Markley, Baits and Bursley. The rest of freshmen would be mostly in South Quad/Honors, East Quad/Residential College and the Michigan Learning Communites. Lots of freshmen really want to be in Markley. It's very social - you'll meet a ton of people, but the rooms are small. You'll also meet a lot of people in Bursley and the dorm is pretty nice. You have to take the bus to class, but how do you get to school now? Baits is suites.

You'll meet tons of people in whichever dorm you live in..mostly theyre full of freshman. South/west quad are so close to campus and have pretty decent sized rooms. Markely is far and have small rooms. A lot of people like north campus because it is quiter..however it is a pain to deal with buses to go to central campus..north campus is kind of like its own little world

markley is too far a walk from campus.
east quad's location is nice, but the people are weird.
west quad is too big and sucks in comparison to south quad.
