Flights and Hotel deals: New York

Does anyone know if there are any good deals for a roundtrip:
Miami (or Ft. Lauderdale) to New York (JFK or LGA)?

I checked Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, and Yahoo! but was wondering if anyone have found better deals. A teacher of mine recommended JetBlue and while that airline have some great prices, there is no hotel involved. The hotel price can go up to more than $100 per night. Or should I just find a motel instead? I don't have a car to park at the motel, but I don't mind staying there.

I did find some good deals around $400 at JetBlue.com--still expensive, but cheaper than the others--but the destination/departure is Newark (EWR) at New Jersey. I figured, if I go there, I have to pay for taxi to drive me to NY anyways--so I might as well as go to the airport in NY......

I am thinking about visiting the colleges in New York that I've applied to and also visit a friend for a few days (maybe 5 or less) some time in early or mid April, so that I can have some ideas of where I want to go study before making a decision by May 1st. I've been to NY before, but when I was small, therefore, do not remember much.

The schools are: Pratt, Parsons, FIT, NYU Tisch, and RIT (which I know is farther from the heart of the city). I haven't heard back from the schools yet, except RIT (got accepted), but would I like to plan the trip soon anyways because some of the decisions come out mid-March and April and by then, it might be too late to buy tickets at a better deal. Also, I am aware that April is Spring Break almost everywhere, so the prices are more expensive. But if anyone knows about great deals, please please inform me. Thank you very very very much! :)

Look for United airlines travel vouchers for travel in the lower 48, unrestricted on Ebay. They typically sell for $275-400 depending on expiration dates.

Southwest flies from Ft Lauderdale to Islip, NY on Long Island. They often have very good fares for this route. There is then a shuttle to the LIRR station where you can catch a train right into the city (Penn Station). The airport website has lots of ground transportation info.

I think JetBlue from FLL to LaGuardia is also a decent option and should be cheaper than flying into Newark.

Thank you very much my-3-sons and my$0.02 for your inputs and suggestions!

I went on eBay and looked at the United airline travel vouchers but decided not to place my bids because I'm not familiar with the process or how the voucher works. I also checked out some flights at nearest cities and they are a bit cheaper, like you mentioned.

Aside from that, I visited Greyhound.com and found way cheaper prices for a roundtrip. I don't really mind taking the bus even if it takes more than 1 day compared to a flight that takes only a few hours. But I'll keep checking!! Thank you again :)

Lately, I've found airfare to be cheaper on American than JetBlue to JFK, which was very surprising.

Anyone flying soon and in urgent need of a Northwest ticket?

I have one (1) roundtrip Northwest voucher (valid for one roundtrip). This was given to me as a job-related incentive by the company I work for.

With this voucher, you can fly from and to any airport served by Northwest Airlines on economy class. There are no restricted dates but you can stay at your destination for a maximum of one month only. If you stay longer, you will need to pay a surcharge to Northwest/KLM.

This is valid for one roundtrip to any Northwest destination regardless of where you begin your flight. I am selling this voucher for $300 (USD). Cost of Fedex delivery of this voucher to anywhere is included in my selling price.

You must fly and complete all travel on or before March 30, 2008. The maximum allowable period of stay at your destination is one month (if you fly using this voucher).
