I am wondering what florida schools I can get into. Specifically FAU, USF, FSU, or UCF.

Here is what I have:

2.5 GPA
SAT MATH - 530
SAT CR - 590
SAT WRITING - 580

Act I have taken but havent gotten the scores back.

3 years of varsity football
4 years of varsity weightlifting

100 hours of community service

2 years work experience

I know my gpa is really low but my test scores are decent. Do you think any of these schools will overlook my GPA? My grades are better this year.

GPA and course rigor (have any APs?) are most important at Florida State, followed by SAT/ACT performance. Your chances are not very good for FSU unless you become a member of the sports teams or apply to the CARE program or can show disadvantaged status.

I'd suggest community college (TCC) first if you really want to attend Florida State.

FSU is my reach school. I don't have my heart set on it but I would like to get in. Probably won't go there anyways though its just a reach school for me.

I also don't really want to go to a community college.

I am suprised you guys are saying I have a good chance at UCF because my understanding is that it is harder than FSU now. Is this not true?

To asnwer your question, I have taken all regular classes except for honors science freshmen year (no AP's).

I also read something on FAU's website that says starting in the fall of 09 they have a minimum gpa requirement of a 2.6. I hope when they recalculate my GPA its higher than that. I am coming from a private school and we have to take religion so that gets factored into your GPA along with your electives which I believe they take out when your GPA is re-calculated.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I forgot to mention the fact that I am from a private school and our classes are alot harder than public school so will they possibly look at that too?

"Beginning fall 2009, a minimum recalculated grade point average (gpa) of 2.6 will be required."

Also

"FAU will use the highest subscores from multiple test dates to create the ACT composite and the SAT total. FAU will use the best subscores to satisfy the required scores for admission purposes.

The writing section of the SAT will be used in the selection process beginning summer 2009. The minimum total SAT score will be 1390 or a composite score of 20 on the ACT."

Formerly FAU was reporting scores from individual tests. I'm glad they're taking the route that FSU and UF does, as I understand they compile the two highest scores as your application score and then report their FTIC info using those scores.

Doubtful you'll get into USF, UCF, or FSU. Not trying to be a hard azz but I have friends with MUCH better stats deferred or rejected from these schools. One of my best friends was deferred from USF with an 1140, 3.2 unweighted (not sure on weighted, but he took 3 APs and many honors), is a GREAT athlete that went to state for track, captain of bball, etc. etc. He got IN to UCF (so much for UCF being "harder" LOL). The schools are tightening up this year.....it's for the best though.

Good luck and hopefully you'll defy the odds and join me at USF next year. If not, "you get in, where you fit in", so don't worry!
