Florida State University/ FSU Accepted/Rejected Class of 2023

My OOS son had >31 ACT equivalent (1420 SAT) and didn’t get the tuition waiver. Hoping after he updates SSAR with semester grades, and a little more time, perhaps at least a partial one will appear.

As mentioned in https://news.fsu.edu/news/university-news/2019/02/04/florida-state-shatters-admission-applications-record-again/, the application pool for this year is quite competitive.
The middle 50 percent of accepted students for the fall semester had a grade point average in the range of 4.1-4.5 with a 1270-1390 total SAT score and 28-32 ACT composite score.

Out-of-state applications increased 41 percent with the acceptance rate for out-of-state students at 19.5 percent.

I’m quite surprised with the stats.

The stats are on par with UF from a few years ago, I’m thinking.

Anyone considering doing pathways at TCC? I’m pretty bummed about the decision, but it’s my top school. I got into PSU for fall but don’t really have any interest in going there. If you’re considering doing pathways at TCC, please reply!

@nhpm510 Did you check with admissions about why you didn’t get the OOS waiver? It has been reported that they are no longer giving the Freshman Scholarship to out of state students (as of last year) so I’m wondering if somehow they have your daughter listed as being In State for residency. Might be worth making a call to admissions to ask. I’m hoping someone will report back what they hear from Admissions as to the GPA and test scores required to get the Out of State Waiver this year. Last year supposedly it was a 4.0 core weighted gpa and a 1410 SAT/30ACT.

Seminole Pathways with a 3.8? on their scale and a 34 ACT and 1450 SAT. Most demanding course load, excellent LORs, decent ECs… did I get yield protected? I’m OOS if it matters. I was really hoping I’d get the OOS tuition waiver since they were the only oos safety I applied to with a neuroscience major…

@apost12 - is that a 3.8 weighted or unweighted GPA?

I’m just estimating. I have an 88 unweighted average on my scale.

Seems bizarre to me that anyone with a 34 ACT would get Pathways.

I don’t know… was it yield protection? Am I legitimately in that territory?

@apost12 - The only thing that is a little low on your application is your GPA. An 88% is a 3.5 unweighted. It’s worth a call to admissions to ask the question though. What you might do is give them your grades from Fall and see if that makes them reconsider. You’d think a 34 ACT would be enough. Also recalculate your GPA using the FSU methodology with only core classes (science, math, english, social studies, and foreign language) stripping out your electives and adding a weight for AP and Honors. See what that gives you. You need a 4.0 core weighted GPA to qualify for the OOS waiver.

Pathways isn’t the worst option. You can live in the Southgate Campus Center dorms and attend TCC for fall and possibly transfer in spring to FSU (they say 2 years but some transfer in earlier). The Southgate dorms are basically across the street from the Gilchrist dorms, so it’s like living on the FSU campus.

Problem is I got a 2.10 GPA last semester. So that would hurt a lot I assume. I don’t really think Pathways would be worth it, especially without any merit aid. I already got into Binghamton in-state with an invitation to a freshman research program, have a full-tuition scholarship at Alabama, and was admitted to the University of South Carolina with at least $10k a year and possibly over full tuition. So it’s not like I’m desperate… just a little salty! And is an 88% a 3.5? That is actually higher than I thought.

I did call admissions and they said the decision was final. My guidance counselor did email them though. My brother got in with a 91.5 W (I have an 89.5), a 1390 SAT and far less course rigor. I was quite confused about that.

Not sure if you made your decision yet. My daughter did pathways last year. She went tcc, roomed with her best friend at Southgate and started FSU in the spring. (pathways is spring admitted no app needed) just proof of 1st semester grades at tcc.

Next year she will be doing FYA LONDON Abroad.
