Thank you TheaterMom and NYTheaterMom. I have now merged two threads on FSU (the new one today with the most recent one).

As well, I took your suggestion to put a note at the top of this forum that explains what to do if new to the forum, as well as starting new threads. My entire post about this does not show up but there is a link to read my entire message at the top.

Please take a look at the thread called Florida State's MT program. There is quite a bit of detailed information about the program there. If you still have questions after reading it I'll be happy to help you. My D just finished her freshmen year in the BFA MT program.

I have now merged this thread with yet another FSU thread (a total of three threads now merged) so that all the discussion on this school is together and not disjointed. What happens, however, when I merge threads, is that the posts from all the threads are put into chronological order. Please realize, then, that the "conversation" above might not flow as posts are inserted from other threads in order by date. But the main thing is that all the discussion on this school is now in this thread (or at least the discussions from the past several months).

If you are new to the forum, before starting a new topic, it is best to search to see if there is already a thread on the topic. This way, all the helpful people on here who have perhaps answered the same questions in the past, do not have to again. You can then find information you need, and then ask questions still not answered.

Thank you to all who are sharing their experiences and knowledge to help others.

CollegeMom,
Thank you for honoring my request. I hope that having only one thread about Florida State will simplify things for those interested in the school.

If you look at post #16 on this thread you'll find a comparison of the BFA and BM MT tracks at FSU.

I would count FSU as a program that strives for a balance between acting, music, and dance classes. All MT students study music theory, piano, take 8 semesters of private voice, and take several semesters of actor training. All must also pass muster in dance. That said, the BFA students do get more of an acting emphasis in their training and the BM students get more of a music emphasis.

I'd appreciate any information on the residence halls at FSU. Any to avoid at all costs and which would be the three or four best for an MT student?

TheatreNote...
My daughter auditioned for FSU for MT last year. There was no tap dance element to the audition. (She would have LOVED that!) She did feel the dance audition was one of the more difficult ones of those she experienced. Students who were weaker dancers had a difficult time keeping up.

AHhh Just found out I was accepted to FSU's MT program. very excitted. Im going to call the school soon but I was wondering if anyone here knows if it is possible to do a double major with the B.M in musical theater and BFA in musical theater at the same time. and do they have a waiting list?

Congratulations on your acceptance :) Which program did you audition for, BM or BFA?

It would not be possible to graduate in 4 years if one was to try to double major in the BM and BFA programs. Whether or not the school would allow you to do a double major and spend extra time in the programs I don't know, though I doubt it. But, my motto has always been, "When in doubt, ask the department chairs."

Congratulations!
You really may not double major - because it's one program with primarily shared courses between the two tracks. If you want to double major, your second major would have to be something else besides MT, and yes it would take you more than 4 years.

FSU does not have a waiting list this year.

Well that would make sense if I didnt have any previous college credits. However, I have taken dual enrollment courses and will either have my AA or be a couple credits shy of getting my AA by the time I enter as freshmen. Sooo being that all my academic credits will be completed, is it then possible? if not maybe a minor in music then? I dont really care if I get both degrees, just all the music and stage credits from both programs. I guess I might just have to wait and see...

I heard from one of our CC members whose D was at this past Sunday's auditions that FSU does NOT have a waiting list this year. I'm sorry that I posted the wrong information. As I should know, things change from year to year. In 2004 and 2005, FSU did have a waiting list. I know a couple of kids who got in from the waiting list. I've been told that this year the MT department will make offers to 12 students. If any of those 12 kids decides to go elsewhere, FSU will simply have a smaller freshman class.

Hi! This is my first post, so I'm sorry if I start in the middle of things, though I'm pretty sure I've read all the posts on FSU. im a junior in high school and last year i visited FSU and loved it. As a MT hopeful would it be better for me to audition into the BM program because my strength is already in music of BFA to get the acting training that im not so strong in? Does anyone have any opinions? Id really appreciate it!
