Is applying from Florida a disadvantage when applying to Yale? I've heard that our acceptance rate versus the rates of other big states like New York is really low, largely as a result of the difference in public school education.

Yale’s acceptance rates are low overall so any difference between populous states is minor.

I don’t think applying from Florida is a disadvantage. I don’t think the acceptance rate from Florida is significantly smaller than from New York State, but you could get a numerically precise answer from a regional admissions rep. What does it matter, though? Admission is a multi-factorial process - if you get in, you’ll never know if it was “only because you’re from Montana”, and if you don’t get in, you’ll never know if “things would have been different if I wasn’t applying from NJ/Mass/Conn/NY”. The kids who get in from Florida mostly have a slightly less intensely academic high school experience than the kids who get in from, say, Mass. That’s because that’s what’s available in Florida. So anyway, if you’re a viable candidate and you’re interested in attending, then apply. Just be sure to apply elsewhere as well.
