Any travel insurance plans anyone would like to recommend? It seems I should get insurance if my laptop and valuables are to be put into the checked in lugguage.

laptops and iPod are allowed on board.

also.. saline solution is also allowed as long as its less than 4 oz.

Can't you live without them?

Not for long periods of time, no.

If you are going to the US. Take this with you:

One shirt
One pair of pants
One underwear
Money

That should be enough.

enough for one day...

you could just buy some more once you get there, right

Medicine, makeup, deodorant, etc. shouldn't be a problem as long as you pack it in your checked luggage.

Buy some once you get there? lol. So ya really think everyone's gonna go shopping the first day you get there? And it can be really expensive in a city like NYC.. so it's kinda ridiculous to just take one of everything.

Just have your passport and immigration documents/visa/etc with you.

And unless you're coming via the UK,

Just have your laptop/camera with you in the hand. And that's only because they might get cracked and smashed if checked in. Otherwise, if you're healthy (and don't need insulin or other essential medications), check everything in.

Lipstick, gloss, hairspray, and the other stuff really isn't needed. You're flying on an airplane, not going to a party. Just wash up when you get to your hotel/dorm once you arrive.

you must have laptops as your carry-on, I think

Word of warning. Within the last few days, I used the tsa locks for the first time and a brand new duffle bag was ripped open by the tsa anyway. Use cable ties, string, rope whatever. Don't lock your bags. Other than that, I took my laptop, ipod, cell phone on board with no problems. I packed all my "liquids."

What's a TSA lock?

They actually ripped your bag open..? Wasn't anything lost?

TSA ( I think it stands for Transportation Security Authority) locks are ones that the TSA can open with a key if they want to check contents. They leave a card inside if they do. Nothing was lost in my case except a brand new bag. I have had locks broken by the TSA and bags ruined if you lock them up. Don't.
