New airport security rules?

I just want to doublecheck: is it okay to bring liquids/gels/etc in your check-in luggage, as long as it is not carry-on?? I've got a few tubes of toothpaste in my suitcase right now...hmm...

Also, if any of you have been at the airport recently, are you experiencing much longer lines? I never go to the airport an hour earlier than my flight anymore, since I always feel like I'm waiting around.

It took my sister in law 2 1/2 hours to get through security on Tuesday. That was the first day of the new rules, but you may miss your flight if you only allow an hour. The length of the line will depend on the size and busyness of the airport you are traveling out of.

Liquids/ gels can be checked in your luggage, but not carried on the plane. Make sure it is double bagged so if something leaks due to air pressure changes it doesn't ruin all your clothes.

Depends on the airport, here at ONT (not very popular, it's in SoCal), the time it takes to get to the gate jumped from 10mins to 50mins. So plan accordingly.

damn...my flight is at like 8 in the morning :/ and LAX I think qualifies as a busy airport

I flew from SFO to LAX, and then LAX to Kona, Hawaii, about 6 hours after the new rules were put into place. Most people had risen early (it was about 6:30 am) and hadn't read the paper or watched the morning news so they had huuuuuuge trash bins to put lotions and deodorant and cough syrup, etc. The line was about a half mile long and it was RIDICULOUS but people would get to the front and try and get personal items through, which really held up the line. By now I believe you can up to 4 oz of medicine if it's non prescription in your carry-on. Definitely arrive early and bring music or a book, they help to pass the time. You can still bring liquids and gels in your checked luggage but make sure to put them in ziplock baggies, my face wash spilled ick!

We flew out of Burlington, VT, yesterday morning and had a very short wait. There appeared to be more TSA personnel than usual. Burlington is, however, a small airport and I would expect that airports like JFK and LAX would have waiting times that have significantly increased.

so if the contact lense solution bottle isn't allowed on board, are we still allowed to put the solution into the contact lense container? ... cos i can't find any other way to take off my lens during the flight (im flying from thailand to detroit)

guess you'll have to wear glasses when you get to the checkpoint

i have to fly home thursday and i cant bring my hair gel. lol.

Just a thought:
Sometimes bigger airports are better at handling situations like this because they are already equipped to process a large number of people quickly. You should still leave plenty of extra time though.
