can I fly? i mean jets...
i know there is an aviation branch when at west point but is this strictly helicopters, and such? do i have to go to afa or anapolis if i want to be a pilot?

There are no fighter jets in the Army Aviation branch.

To get fighter jet training you need to go into the navy or air force programs. In the past, a few West Point graduates cross commissioned into the Air Force or Navy so that they could enter the fighter jet program. My understanding is that the outgoing (out of the Army to another branch) cross commissioning program has been suspended.

If you go to the Air Force Academy or the Naval Academy, there is no guarantee that you will get to fly jets. The Navy's largest requirement is for rotary wing (helicopter) pilots. Only the very best flight students get to select tactical jets. The situation in the Air Force is similar; they have an awful lot of turbo-prop aircraft that need pilots.

There are only a few turbo-prop aircraft in the USAF inventory. C-130 and derivatives, C-12, UV-18B, and RC-26. Quite a few C-130s are guard (along with all of the RC-26s).
The best get fighters/bombers, the rest get transport or support aircraft. Although, they say the transport pilots have it pretty good.

I wouldn't recommend comming here to fly jets. But, I wouldn't recommend flying jets in the first place unless you are 100% sure thats what you want. There is an additional service commitment and its very VERY competitive to get it. Even before your merit comes your eyesight, health, and reaction time. As far as cross service being suspended, I have heard nothing of the sort.

A little know fact is that if your highest percentage chance to fly Navy is to go to Kings Point. There is no artifical limit to the slots allocated for Navy Air as there is at USNA. At USNA even if you are qualified but aren't high enough in your class you can get left out. If you are qualified graduating from KP you will most likely get flight school if you ask.

Also, from KP you can take an active duty commission in any of the services.
