I just found out I got a 4 on my AP Lang exam. I was really hoping for a 5. It just seems as if though the practice essays, the multiple choice practice... everything came down to nothing. I'm upset, and I don't know what to do. I feel like I failed myself and others.

Stop *****ing and get over it. There’s nothing you can do now except enjoy your summer and try harder next year. Anyways a 4 is a perfectly decent score, it’s not like you didn’t pass the test. I think we all get the moments where we figure out that we’re not as smart or successful as we’d like to be, or thought we were. Live with it.

A 4 is fine. I got a 4 on Lang, and for my school, getting a 5 wouldn’t have given me any credit for freshman writing anyway.

I would love to get a 4 on the lang test.

Oh my god, you got a 4? Your hopes and dreams of getting into any college are now ruined…you’re pretty much a certified idiot.

Dude. A 4 is not bad. Get over it. A 5 is better, yeah, but a 4 is still great It’s not that big of a deal. You’re acting as if you got a 1.

You. Are. Fine.

Awww, poor girl Try therapy?

Go break the news to your mom and let her know she failed as a parent.

AP Lang is a difficult exam, be happy with a 4.

Not to discourage you even more, but how did that happen? Did you run out of time or something? MC should have been pretty easy and the essays were cake…

So I can definitely empathize with your disappointment. But it’s not the end of the world.

I know how disappointing it is to work really hard at something and not live up to your expectations, but I think you’re being too hard on yourself. I remember the week before my first ap test, I got a stomachache almost every night because I was just so worried about it. I really thought that my parents and teachers would be disappointed in me if I didn’t do well. And now, three years later, I recently shared that with my teachers, and they made me realize how ridiculous that idea was. If anything, they were proud of all the work I had put in and would know how much I had improved regardless of how I did on one test that only encompasses 4 hours of my entire life. It’s natural to be disappointed, but just think about how much you’ve improved after all the work you did. That work has made you a better writer and thinker, and you need to remind yourself that all the work you put into the exam was definitely not for anything. And besides, it could have just been luck of the draw. Your score may very well have been very close to a 5, and if you had taken the test another year, with different passages and essays you could have likely gotten a 5. AP Lang is a really hard test, and just because your essays may not have gotten a really high score on their rubric doesn’t mean that you’re not a great writer. A lot of the test is just strategy and knowing how to plug stuff into formulas, and you can definitely be a great writer and critical thinker but still get a 4 on the test. And I know you don’t want to hear this now, but a 4 is a GREAT score and you should be proud of yourself, not disappointed.

I think that it’s hard to get your mind off of this because it’s the summer, and therefore you don’t have school to keep you preoccupied so you can keep your mind busy with other things to distract you. Because you get the score in the summer, its importance probably seems inflated. But seriously, I promise that this will NOT seem like a big deal at all later on. Just focus on how much you’ve improved, and move on and enjoy your summer.

Saugus, you are such a jerk. The idea of CC is to collaborate and help each other, not brag and show other people how much smarter you are than them. there are so many people on CC who are smarter than you, so shut up.

Don’t worry, kitkatkitty2…you’ll get over it, it’s just a test and it’s not like your hard work went to waste. a 4 is still passing a college class essentially.

@MapleLeaf: Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you. I feel a lot better now. (:

A 4?! i would die if i got a 4. I got a 2, i have no clue how i got that atrocious score. You should be happy!

calm your pants, its a good score

REally are you serious?! **** OFF!!!

I got a fkin 2. How do u think I feel?

i got a 4 as well but i was extremely happy since I expected a 3 or lower.

And do not listen to that egoistic full of himself “saugus”. Since the essay topics were a little easier it makes it that much harder to have an essay that stands out. Therefore, it’s sometimes better to have a harder essay topic if that makes any sense to anyone.

So do not get down on your self for a four. It’s still an excellent score and remember that 5’s and 4’s are the minority. The majority of scores are 3’s and lower.

@Wynter

Clearly you lack the critical reading ability necessary to obtain a 5 yourself. As I stated, the intent of my post was not to disparage, and was merely an inquiry. If the OP was surprised to get a 4, then she was probably close to a 5 anyway so it doesn’t really mean a whole lot.

I got a 2… at least you’re getting credit.

And Saugus, you were quite pretentious in your post. Referring to aspects of the exam as easy and questioning the OP’s 4 does not benefit the OP. The inquiry was relatively redundant, especially because a 4 still grants credit, so further discussion for why a 5 was not achieved is unnecessary in my opinion. And you don’t necessarily require substantial critical reading skills; the score distribution for the essays is 55% - roughly, if not, a 5. The condescending attitude does not justify a constructive response in the discussion.
