I was wondering if I was the only one who thought it was a little pathetic. Maybe more than a little.

I agree this is pathetic. This poster is spamming this and other Duke threads. The desperation tells me they must be very worried no one will sign up. I wonder if these posts are authorized by the teacher. They are making it easy for me to take it off my list.

Anyone know the answer to my question?

So the fall schedule for a focus student could be 2 focus classes, writing 20, and another class?

The best course of action is to call the Academic Advising Center - the phone number and hours are on page 3 of the 2011 Registration Guide.

If you have not received your registration guide you can download a copy here under "Trinity registration pages":

Thanks westcoastmon.

For those wondering, being in a focus cluster satisfies both the seminar and writing 20 requirement by the end of the fall semester.

So the fall schedule for a focus student could be 2 focus classes and 2 other classes of your choosing (+a .5 credit class.)

Anyone know if they offer guitar lessons in a .5 credit class?

Just wondering, where did you hear that it fulfills both Writing and Seminar requirements?

Stupid Duke needs to update their webpages. What I read was for the class of 2010 here http://advising.trinity.duke.edu/firstyear/

You are right - they are not good at updating webpages at all. It's very frustrating to have to hunt for updates when prior year information is posted.

fengshuibundi emailed the focus admin who confirmed that writing 20 is not included.

Is it just me or does that not make any sense? FOCUS takes up 3 out of our 4 classes, and our 4th class basically HAS to be Writing 20, which means we can't start our foreign language requirement the first year and will also probaby be behind for math and such...

FOCUS takes up 2 of your 4 classes, and one of the other classes does NOT have to be writing 20. You are free to take that 2nd semester.

Hopefully I'll get into Humanitarian Challenges.

I want my fall schedule to look something like this

Writing 20 - Jesus in America
Humanitarian Challenges
History of Genocide
Principles of Economics
Focus discussion (half credit)

Assuming I get this schedule, do you guys think this schedule might be too heavy for a first year? Too light?

I don't see how you could make it any lighter...

Unless of course your writing 20 is a particularly work intensive one.

Oh...hmm, well, I hope I'll have two classes from either Genome Revolution or Exploring the Mind, a Writing 20...

And what should my 4th be? Should I start the Biology classes, go to second-year calculus (bleh...that's the natural path after AP Calculus BC, right? I don't like math but I don't want to forget it all before taking multivariable), or start my foreign language?
