Follow-up questions

Recently I've been seeing that people have gotten follow-up questions from certain schools asking for more information about them... and I was wondering, do a lot of people get these? If you have gotten them, what were they? And if I haven't gotten any, does this mean the schools probably aren't interested in me?

Don’t worry about it. Neither of my kids got a follow-up question. They both got into their first-choice school and were admitted or wait-listed at the others.

Maybe this will make you feel better: think of the follow-up as a callback audition. Often the actor who gets the lead does not get called back because they have already been cast and don’t need a second look.

Whenever people ask questions like this, my response is always the same. They can’t possible contact everyone. Many of these schools get thousands of applicants and admit hundreds of students. It’s logistically impossible for them to talk to everyone, and it’s unrealistic for them to have questions about every applicant they’re taking seriously. Relax and try not to think about it. M10 will tell you all you need to know.

@booklady123 - thanks for that analogy. I was starting to feel kind of gloomy because Moosieboy hadn’t gotten any sort of feedback from the AO regarding any additional info. I contacted the AO just before the Jan 15 deadline to make sure everything was in order (we had submitted Moosieboy’s application back in December, but I was concerned not all the rec letters, school info from our co-op, etc, had made it in), and the AO was very prompt in replying and saying that everything was in and in order. Then I added whether or not we should include the midterm grades, and she said basically that any additional information would be helpful, but never made it sound like it was necessary. We never heard anything back, whether or not everything for FA was in order, etc. The whole time I felt kind of, “Hmmm… maybe they haven’t contacted us bc it’s a lost cause!” Which still could be, but as an URM, perhaps he’s on a very short list and nothing else was necessary bc like you said, the person who gets the part doesn’t need a callback! I know reading your post doesn’t change what may happen come acceptance time, but at least it makes me hopeful :)

That’s the idea – none of us really knows for sure, but it helps to find explanations that make you feel optimistic. Good luck to you on M10.

All of you are so helpful, I feel better now (though I’m still trying not to get my hopes up). Thank you! :D
