Fonts for college applications

HI. The going professional wisdom that when we apply for university we should "keep it simple" by using, for the essays, fonts like Arial or Times New Roman.

I find both of them hideous! I am thinking of using something that looks similar to Times New Roman, but a little smarter, sharper. Nothing too decorative, just a smart professional font that my company does use in its business communication.

My question: would using a professional corporate font be a risky strategy? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Oh, CC. The threads I see on here.

Adcoms are seriously not going to care. Really. They won't. They just want to be able to read your application.

i used verdana in my applications. i hate times new roman too.

as long as you aren't typing in something really flamboyant or unreadable, i don't think they'll care too much. it may even give your app some personality in their eyes.

Doubtful. Adcoms have to read thousands upon thousands of applications. They have enough things to consider; I seriously doubt a special font will make a difference.

facepalm

This is hilarious, let me correct what atrophicwhisper said. They have enough things to consider; I know for a fact that a special font WILL NOT make a difference. Really if anything it's detrimental because I've had anal teachers who MUST have papers in size 12 Times New Roman font double spaced with 1.25" margins(or whatever the MS Word setting is) or else you paper is an instant fail. Who's to say that an admission officer wouldn't be the same?

People seriously need to stop thinking about "oh, will THIS make me stand out?" Just do the best you can.

i wouldnt use times new roman simply because i freakin hate it with so much passion its inexplicable.
haha idk why, but if a teacher needs an essay in times new roman I have to write it in another font and then switch it right before i'm printing

but my god, seriously....font is not gooing to make a difference in your application.....

Try wingdings.

adcoms love it.

Use this for a guaranteed admission.
