Essay fonts

How much am I going to be punished if my essay is in the new Word 2007 default font "Calibri?"

I'll change it so that the rest of my apps have it in Times New Roman. I'd much rather use the universally accepted Times New Roman than stick out with Calibri. Has anyone else done this? I've already done 9 apps...

It’s fine… just avoid Comic Sans MS and you’ll be okay.

Personally, I can’t stand to read Times New Roman or write essays using it. It’s just a thing. I doubt colleges will care, honestly, they don’t pay attention to such minute details. I mean, can you really imagine an admissions officer flipping to your essay, scrutinizing for font choice, and tossing your application in the reject pile on account of a typographical styling choice? No.

xD

you can use any font you want. no school will reject your application based on the sole fact that your font was X(name of font).

then again at 17-16 years of age you should know that sending your college admission essay in ELEPHANT will certainly not be a good idea. any decent, formal font will do.

and personally, i share the same view as raelah. i cant stand times new roman and prefer by far the words new calibri font, which i wrote all my college essays in.

Yes, Times New Roman haters unite!

I just hate the way it looks on the page…

heyalb <----- uniting with the Times New Roman haters.

And regarding post #2 about avoiding Comic Sans MS, interesting that you said that, kansasdemocrat. I find that font the absolute easiest to read, easiest on the eyes, of any of the 8 million fonts in MS Word.

i DESPISE times new roman
with a passion

if a teacher needs a paper in TNR, i have to write the whole paper in another font, and then change it a second before printing it, and then i can’t read it after its printed

idk why it just bothers me so much
i haven’t seen calibri i wonder how it looks

i used to use Georgia (size 11), but for the past two years i’ve been using Sylfaen (size 10.5-11) <3

I do the same thing when forced to use Times New Roman, alamode.

Though I tend to despise teachers who require such nonsense. Most of them have no trouble with a practical Georgia or Cambria font.

You’re not alone- my essays were in Calibri, too; ultimately, I looked at my common app essay using Times New Roman, and I didn’t like where the page break fell (and I hate TNR, regardless). You’ll be fine, like others had said, it isn’t an illegible font, and it is the default font for Word 2007. =)

Calibri is fine. It’s one of my favorites. I’m glad I’m not the only one who despises TNR…

wow…loads of TNR haters…

I am okay with Times New Roman and wrote my essays in it, though I think sans-serif fonts are better.

Agreed with kansasdemocrat. [ban comic sans :: Putting the Sans in Comic Sans](http://www.bancomicsans.com)
