Hey so i've heard the food is pretty good at ucla, but i'm unsure of how the food package works. on my financial aid package, is food listed under personal or is food separate from the financial aid package, and i'll have to pay for food myself? er so how does the food system work? i've heard you buy an annual meal package or something and you get swipes.. can someone explain it to me?

and also, i live around the bay area, and i was wondering if i should bring my car? how is the parking?

parking is virtually impossible. i guess theres a slight chance you'll get a space, but theres no way to count on it. if you're wealthy, you can buy a space or pay a monthly fee in a westwood lot (which isnt convinient)

Those numbers indicate how many swipes you have per week. However, the ones with premiere (more expensive, for example 14P is more expensive than 19) works differently.

With premiere, they give you all the meals for the quarter (14 or 19 x 11 swipes) at the beginning. You can choose to use it any time you want and swipe more than once during a meal period (get more stuff yourself or for other people). The only time when it expires is at the end of the quarter.

With a regular plan however, you are given the 11/14/19 swipes at the beginning of the week (Sunday night) and you only have that week to use it, otherwise they're all gone. No swiping more than once during a meal period. (They split it into breakfast, lunch, extended lunch, dinner, extended dinner -- or something like that. Essentially every several hours...)

You can use swipes at places other than the dining halls. There's places where you can get meals to go, ice-blended drinks, smoothies or hot specialty drinks (coffee, tea, etc.) with pastries. That's where premier can come in handy!

oh so what is the most popular food meal option? i mean what if you don't use up all your swipes in the week or if you don't have enough swipes for the week? so these 11/14/19 swipes mean you get 11/14/19 meals every week? and for the premiere swipes, you get the SAME amount of meals as the regular swipes, but you can get better food, swipe more than once for a meal period, and it ends not at the end of the week but end of quarter?

yeah so i shouldn't bring a car to LA right..how is the transportation down there?

so with premier, do you get like specialty food/drinks like ucapplicant05 said ? so 11/14/19 meals a week, does that include breakfast, lunch, dinner and possibly in-between meals as well? 7 days a week x 3 basic eating meals= 21 meals. yeah im a little confused about that, can someone explain?

Ok. There is NO specialty food. What I meant when premier can come in handy for those things is for a situation like this: you want want lunch and a smoothie. Without premier, you would have to choose one over the other and wait a few hours later to get the other thing. Or like say you want to have breakfast and pick up coffee and pastry to go to class or something. Or say you just want to eat two meals from a take out place.

You can use those swipes for any meal you like (but not more than once without premier).

They only serve 19 meals a week. On the weekends, there is only brunch and dinner. So 5x3+2x2=19.

I've been on 14 Premier for two years now, and it's been more than enough. Since I don't eat breakfast anymore I usually end up with a surplus of meals and swipe for drinks / order MyPizza online at the end of each quarter (something you can only do with a Premier plan). So yes, 14 meals per week is enough for anyone.
