Hey guys,
Do any of you know anything about the food/nutrition sciences at Cornell. I am interested in applying there and I want to know how hard it is and how good the classes are. Do any of you guys wish to apply there also or are already in the program? If so, please help me out! Thanks so much :)

Well they are different programs. Food Science is completely within CALS, with their HQ located in Stocking Hall. Currently, Stocking Hall is undergoing a massive renovation (including the dairy bar) and will be finished within a few years. Cornell puts a lot of money into Food Science, as it’s one of the top ranked programs. Classes focus on food production, safety, etc. Lots of chemistry and heavy science courses as well.

Nutrition, likewise, is one of Cornell’s top programs. The HQ is a building on the opposite side of campus, near Human Ecology. The program, unlike most at Cornell, is not considered a “Department” but rather a “Division”. This is because you can be a nutrition major in either CALS or Human Ecology, with the requirements similar in both. Classes are actually more human health oriented, and in my opinion, the Cornell Nutrition program is the absolute best pre-med major. You take anatomy, nutrition, biochemistry, biology, etc. You will focus a lot on nutrition-related diseases and how to treat them from a nutrition point of view. You can also enroll in the “Dietetics” track and be eligible to be a registered dietitian upon graduation. One of the perks are the two required cooking classes, which is cool.

So really, the two are VERY different. They can’t be lumped together, at least at Cornell. Good luck!
