how are the healthy eating options at UC Davis?

In my opinion ‘healthy’ food options are pretty limited.

About the only place that comes to mind which seems more healthy-ish is Pluto’s, where you can basically create your custom salad. But you’re paying like 8 dollars for it which is pretty ridiculous when you can just get stuff from the local grocery store and make something tantamount on your own.

If you’re into eating healthy, I’d recommend just fixing some simple meals from stuff you can pick up at the local markets. Much lighter on the wallet than eating out too.

The healthy food options are actually pretty good. The DC offers many healthy food options and even uses some sort of ranking/color coding system to indicate which options are the healthiest.

The CoHo (ASUCD run restaurant) offers many healthy options as well. Additionally, the Downtown Davis Farmers’ Market is something you definitely should not miss. It’s on Wednesdays and Saturdays and offers tons of fresh fruit/nuts and other organic offerings.

There are lots of salads, fruits, vegetables, yogurt, etc at the dining commons. Your meal can be as healthy or unhealthy as you make it!

awesome glad to hear that everything isn’t unhealthy :-)

can some one who live off campus can eat lunch at the dinning hall?

^ they offer meal plans for off-campus residents, check out this link: [Welcome, Dining Services, UC Davis](<a href=“Dining at UC Davis | UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services”>Dining at UC Davis | UC Davis Student Housing and Dining Services)
:)

it’s sooo expensive though^
if you are so inclined you are allowed to simply go in and pay full freight (like $8-10 i think)

what most kids end up doing if they don’t bring a lunch is eat at the coho (coffeehouse) on campus or in the silo on campus. or if you have a lot of time, go downtown or to the umall. subway is like a 5 minute walk away from the arc. or a vending machine maybe. it’s a college campus there is food everywhere :D

Hey guys! I was thinking of purchasing an unlimited meal plan when I start at UC Davis this upcoming fall as a freshman. I had one quick question: If I purchase an unlimited meal plan, can I purchase meals for friends and family anytime I like? Will they be able to get seconds as well?

Thanks to anyone who answers this! I can’t find the answer anywhere! I know the meal plan is “unlimited”, but I’m not sure if UC Davis has a rule against giving meals to people who aren’t students. I know that UC Santa Cruz allows you to give meals to friends or family 5 times a quarter or something like that :)

I don’t think anyone will be able to answer your questions regarding the “Unlimited” meal plan as they did not have this option for 2010-2011 school year.

once you are in the dining hall it is all you can eat, so yes seconds for everyone.

no clue how they will deal with you giving swipes away. i would imagine hardly any, if at all.
so jealous!

usually for move-in day though they will let the parents have a free meal in the dining hall.

Yes, the ‘unlimited’ means it is all you can eat while you are in there (not unlimited
meals). Each time you go in, it is a swipe on your card. And they clear out
the hall between breakfast, lunch, and dinner - so you cannot just sit in there
and eat all day on one swipe. You can swipe in your family or friends on your
card, but of course the swipes will count against your total.
Never heard of these - free meals for parents on move-in day?? paying to get
in to the dining commons? As far as I know, you cannot go in there unless you
have a meal plan (and a card to swipe).
I got the extra 100 Aggie cash the first quarter, but didn’t really use it, so cancelled it for the next 2 quarters. By the way, I did the 180 plan. There were enough breakfasts
I missed so I could swipe my whole family and guests in on Picnic Day.

For the 2011-2012 school year, they have a new meal plan option of “Unlimited”… and with little info available, I have to assume it means just that… that you can swipe your card as many times as you want each day. However, if this were to be true, I’m sure this would mean that you would not be allowed swipe your card for guests under this meal plan, as you would be able to with a specified number meal plan.

But then again, maybe “unlimited” means up to 3 swipes a day, 7 days a week.

When they send out the Housing packet, maybe they will have the definition of “Unlimited” in there.
