How’s the food at Upenn? Is it terrible awesome or maybe somewhere in between?

the foodcarts are incredible.

Hill Cafeteria has incredible cookies.

i love cookies!

They're really big, chocolate chip, and soft cookies! Great for spending those meal points at the end of a semester!

So meal points just keep adding up each week until the end of the semester then?

do meal points roll over like roll over minutes?

The food at Penn is decent. Your meal plan has two parts: meals you use in all you can eat dining halls and dining dollars that you use at retail locations. The dining dollars do roll over, but, don't worry, you will run out of them anyway since they buy the better food.
They can be used at places like Starbucks, Chik-fil-a, Subway, and some other places on campus. Dining dollars do not add up each week. You start out with a certain amount each semester based on which meal plan you get. Meals do not roll over, and most people I know struggle to try and finish their meal plan at the end of the semester. Hope that helped!

The trick to getting the most out of your money: Use your meals often. Even if you don't feel like sitting down to eat, you can always use your meals at places like Hill Express and grab a handful of items and get on your way. Dining dollars are useful if you want to grab a bite to eat between classes when you're out and about. A lot of people don't use their meals and so it just becomes a big waste!

food is good.
cafeterias in order of how good they are:

1) Hillel (costs $2.10 extra, mostly used by orthodox jews)
2) Hill
3) Kings Court (closed weekends)
4) 1920 Commons (easily the biggest, most everyone goes here)

Where you eat is essentially determined by where you live.

And yeah, food trucks rock.

I had 110 meals left last semester. I'm improving, though, only 102 or so left this semester!

What's the big food court at Houston Hall called?

Houston Market I think, but uhh I just call it Houston or even just Houston Hall :P I don't think I usually go there for any other reason other than food, sooo...

there had better be a good bagel shop on campus. and a good chinese delivery place. manhattan has spoiled me.

So the Houston Hall food court.. can you use your meal plans there (like at the pasta place there, for example)? Or do those places take dining dollars?

pennorbust: Everything there is pretty much dining dollars (but you can also bursar or use cash/credit/etc) but I don't think they take meal plans. You can use meal plans at places like Hill Express or Hill Dining or 1920 Commons, etc.

newedition: There are bagels everywhere. It rains bagels here. Every time I step outside I get pelted by an endless torrent of bagels. And plenty of Chinese delivery.

^hahahahahaha

yeah but is it good food? i am accustomed to quality nyc gourmet delis (real bagels) and better than average chinese restaurants. i have a feeling i am going to miss ollies and shun lee.

HAHAHHA, NYC bagels being "real" bagels.

Come to Montreal. Then you'll taste a real bagel.

Yay!! bagles!!! haven't had one in four years.
Yay Chinese food. looks like i won't starve after all.
This is what Shanghai does to you
