food?

I am an lacta-ova vegetarian (i eat eggs and milk but no other meat) and I consider myself a fairly healthy individual. I love healthly foods, such as veggies, fruits, salads, hummus, etc, but I also love sweets. I do not like fried or BBQ food and i know the south specializes in these types of foods, so i was just wondering if anyone knew what the campus food and the university of south carolina is like and whether or not it is accomadating to vegetarians. Also, i am pretty active and i would also appreciate if someone could tell me if there are many recreational activities on campus. I know usc has a pretty amazing rec center, but im more of an outdoorsy person. Any info would be extremely helpful! thanks so much!

this is EAdad's daughter, i'm a freshman at USC

I'm a freshman girl on campus and as far as your dietary needs...i strongly reccomend Patterson's dining hall. You can make stir-fry with any veggies of your choice & rice and sauce (no meat if you dont want it!) and it is SOOOOO good :). Also Patterson has make your own pasta's with veggies etc that are great and make your own salads that are large and very filling! Russell house has the salad-bar just like patterson. I know several vegetarian's and they dont have any problem eating on campus at all!

As far as recreational activities, the Strom (our gym) is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! It is a palace! There is raquet ball, a three storie rock-climbing wall, weight rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor track, and a cardio deck equipped with personal TV/DVD player for each machine. I spend a lot of time at Strom and it is one of the hottest places on campus.

For the outdoors activites, there are hundreds of Intramural teams like flag football, soccer, softball, dodgeball, volleyball etc and you can create your own team with friends or sign up to be placed into a team. Theyre very popular on campus and a lot of fun! If you're into more competitive activities, there are club sports to try out for. With so many different people with so many different interests, there are literally thousands of options and ways to get involved on campus! I've had a great experience and i hope it helps!

Thank you so much! that helps a ton! it's really nice to hear an inside perspective of the campus, etc. I'm glad you like it at USC, and good luck with the rest of the year.

jingle.Hi..Moms perpective here...unlike EADads D,S eats pratically all his meals at the Russell House b/c of where his dorm is situated. He's also gone to Patterson a few times and liked the stir fry's. Russell House has a regular dinig hall, plus fast food outlets including Italian,Greek and a smoothie place which could help you out.The West Quad ..the enviornmentally built "green dorm" might interest you..its all upper classmen except theres a freshman special interest area. They have a healthy foods/goods market in that dorm.
Off campus theres the usual roundup of student type eateries..S's current fave is Moe's southwest Grill..which could meet your needs for beans/no meat Tex Mex!
Overall, it might be a slightly harder atmosphere is live with...there is more fried/meat stuff than we might be used to.S has developed a taste for BBQ,grits and bacon.
