Food!

How is the food at Notre Dame? I mean, I'm Korean, so I can't live w/o Korean food, which means my final decision will kinda rely on food as well. I read the cafeteria menu, and there really doesn't seem to be much diversity in Korean/Japanese menu. Will there be any way to satiate my Korean/Japanese appetite w/o resorting to spicy instant noodles?

There's decent Chinese delivery in South Bend, my roommates have littered the common room with the boxes. However, there will rarely if ever be Korean food in the dining hall. There are probably KSA events at which students cook up something authentic. If you absolutely must have Korean food all the time then I don't know what to say. There are other Korean students and they get by, and compared to other schools' dining halls, Notre Dame's is top notch

I'd say man up and deal with the lack of korean food. =D

Hi Oak, from your question I am concluding you have not had the chance to visit the campus? I see you are from Hawaii so that is understandable.
My husband and son ranked Cornell cafeteria food as number 1 and ND as number 2, not that they toured a large number of schools.

But, I assure you the South dining hall, and food choices are stellar. Son tells me there is Sushi fairly regularly, perhaps others can tell you more about that.

Something tells me you have other "concerns' beyond the food choices.

haha, you totally got me there. I'm still worried about the environment in Notre Dame, since I am from Hawaii. It's definitely going to be a big change and food is part of that. Shocks... I guess I'll just take some canned food or something if I go Notre Dame though.... Glad to hear that they have at least sushi.

Really Oak- the South Dining Hall and food choices are outstanding.
What made you apply to ND-are you Catholic?
are you a football fan? Sporty? Like the single sex dorm atmosphere?

Not going to find palm trees in South Bend :)

Yes, indeed BIG change from balmy, ocean breezes.

What are your real concerns ?

Spouse claims that the best food in South Bend is South Dining Hall! HA! Seriously, I think you will be impressed with the food service compared to most colleges and as bpayne1 mentioned, take-out is always an option as I know that our student has frequented take-out esp. on weekends and late-nights. Good Luck!

actually, the sushi i've had at the dh's here suck. lol. But overall, the foods pretty good. Usually not the Asian food they try to make, though

Food shouldn't be a huge concern when you're looking at colleges.

With that said, the food here is great, though maybe not the Asian food. I've never been a big fan of Asian food, so I can't really speak to the quality.

Most Hawaii kids have no problem with transition. I know four Hawaiians, they just had their annual luau in Stepan last weekend. You'll have to buy a jacket, which is definitely an interesting experience-I did it coming from SoCal. I wouldn't worry about the food though. And if you are really that concerned about vitamin D deficiency, there is a natural light relaxation room in health services free of charge.
