Foothill College and Universities in California

Hello folks,

I am currently a high school graduate residing in Indonesia and I'm currently planning on attending either a four-year university in California or even a community college in California. I've looked on Foothill College, and I just wanted opinions from the CC forum on how good the academic quality of Foothill is compared to other community colleges, and whether it is worth ed going to a community college first rather than a University instead. (I already got accepted to a University in Texas, but I'm considering some other options). Also, I wanted to ask if there is any California Universities that are still opened for admission, and well has a decent quality of education and a not so costly fees. I'm willing to spend for Universities as long as it's reasonable enough.. Thanks for the help guys, looking forward to your reply :)

Although I did not go to Foothill, I would say its academic quality is probably about even with the other community colleges. As a former community college student, I would highly recommend this route over applying directly to a UC/CSU, as it is FAR cheaper, especially since you would be an international student. After finishing your first two years, you can then transfer to San Jose State, San Francisco State, or one of the UCs. You’ll also be close to the Silicon Valley, in case you want to take on some internships while you’re there.

On the other hand, if the university in Texas offers you a financial aid package that brings the cost lower than Foothill college, go there.

One more thing. You have until June 30 to apply to Foothill College for the Fall Quarter.

Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to determine which community colleges have the best coverage of prerequisites for your intended major at UCs and CSUs.

For non-resident students including international students taking a normal course load (30 semester units or 45 quarter units per year), tuition and mandatory fees at California community colleges are about $9,000 per year. This compares to about $14,000 per year at CSU and about $35,000 per year at UC. These do not include living expenses, books, and supplies.
