for a friend...scared he won’t get in college

My friend is really paranoid after hearing some of his friends gpas.
These are some of his stats:
4.19 weighted gpa
1260 SAT
27 ACT
He heard that others have gotten better sats and have better GPAs and feels inferior now
He’s one NHS, Beta Club, was captain of lacrosse team since sophomore year and has over 70 hours of volunteering so far at a local hospital and a regional special olympics training facility.

OK, stop.

4.19 GPA.

He’ll get in, as long as he doesn’t apply only to schools that accept something like 5% of all applicants.

If he “feels inferior” because he’s learned that his SATs and GPA aren’t higher than all “others” then the issue isn’t his grades.

Your friend just needs to apply to some very good safety and match schools. There are hundreds of very good universities in the US, and probably not more than roughly 50 or so that would be a reach with these stats.

Your friend can get into really great state schools or other really good liberal arts/private colleges (like Boston University). If he does he feel stressed that he won’t get into some of the colleges he really likes, he can work really hard on his common app/coalition personal essay and any supplements.

I honestly think your friend is a very high-achieving student despite his “low” SAT score. Maybe he can try to increase his SAT or ACT tests in by retaking in December?
