For admission into a department do they care about course load?

Should you be taking difficult classes or should you be taking classes that you know you can do well in?

Thanks.

Do well in difficult classes. Don’t take shortcuts.

Okay, but if I am majoring in Business should I take more math (Math 125+) or should I focus on completing my other GEs? I plan to take Econ 201, Stat 311, Clas 430/205, and another 5 credit course next quarter.

If you are not confident in doing well in them (3.5 or above), dont take them.

For Business I don’t think they care too much about high level math, etc. Don’t take classes that don’t apply to your requirements just because they are difficult, but rather take course loads you can do well in that apply towards your major.

1 is Pre-reqs. Do well in your pre-reqs. That is of utmost importance. If you have a hard workload though and you do well, it obviously looks really good. All admissions like well-rounded students who excel in everything. Of course, if you have a hard workload and don’t do that well, they’ll be slightly understanding but I would think it’d look better if you took some simple classes and did really well in them rather than over-working yourself and only coming out as average.

Try not to focus on taking the hardest classes and doing well in them. Its freshman year – your FIRST year of college. Give yourself some space to explore.

Become a Biology major, it’s an open major. Once you pass all of the pre-reqs, you can declare it as your major right with no problem
