Name: dottified
Location: Nevada, but I’m originally from SoCal.
Favorite movies: The Reader, Little Miss Sunshine, Peter Pan, Atonement, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, anything philosophical.
Favorite TV shows: Law and Order SVU (I’m strangely obsessed with it for no reason), House, Friends.
Favorite music: Alt-rock-pop-Broadway.
Favorite books: Crime and Punishment, various Jane Austen novels, The Lovely Bones, 1984, Jane Eyre, anything philosophical.
Random: I like to philosophize. I spend a lot of time… wasting time. I’m bubbly, but introverted, which doesn’t really make sense, but it’s how I am. My graduating class has 8 people in it. I love learning about everything. And I’m really really tired right now.

Oh, and I think they’re supposed to notify us by April 5th.

This should answer all notification questions:

“Our earlier notification that your application was complete and ready for review indicated vaguely that you would receive your admission decision by “mid April.” Our expectation is to notify you of the Admissions Committee’s decision by April 4, 2009. We are sorry for any confusion and regret adding to the stress of the admission season.”

If you have any questions prior to then, please feel free to contact us at (909) 621-8134 or email admissions@pomona.edu.

don’t worry too much abt stats and stuff, cuz my teacher told me that most ppl on cc have higher stats than the whole applicant pool. when i look at the cc ppl’s stats, i tend to get depressed too

You guys, do people know what Pomona is when you tell them you wanna go there? I feel like most people don’t really know that it’s a really good school, so I wonder if that will affect job searching later on… ? (as opposed to, you know, Ivy League schools, which every employer will recognize by name)

From what I’ve heard, everyday people won’t know Pomona, but job interviewers and grad schools will. I love Pomona, but it’s not really known for it’s name. But then again, I don’t think any of the liberal arts colleges are.

smiley44- yep, I think you’re right. It’s one of the best liberal arts schools in the country, but not a lot of people are familiar with it (though to be fair, most “normal” people are only familiar with the Ivy League colleges and like top D1 sports colleges…).

ahh, I hope so too…counting down the days til April 4th, seriously.
also in response to whether people know about Pomona: in a word, no. here in FL, at least, it’s practically unknown. but I hear it has a better rep out in Cali? regardless, I love the place, and I don’t think I’ll really need name recognition to get a decent job in my future profession.

My impression (scrounged from various other CC forums) is that Pomona does have name recognition and is respected by plenty of employers, even if nobody you or I know has ever heard of them. As for recognition in-state, apparently it still gets confused with Cal Poly Pomona.

Again, this info is at least second hand.
