For Anyone Who's Definitely Going To Tulane

I'm not for sure going but I'm in with a great scholarship w/an invitation to the honors program and it's my first choice at the moment. I'd say I'm about 90% sure I'm going. Not definite, but close. I'm still waiting to see if I get into William and Mary RD but right now, I'd turn them down for Tulane.

Is anyone else just as certain about attending Tulane next year?

I am. The only thing holding me back is finding out about my state's flagship public school which would be much cheaper. But I too have a great scholarship, honors, and an enthusiasm to go to Tulane and NOLA.

Tulane and W&M are very different environments - have you visited both? If not, and you get into both, you really need to.

Yeap, I've visited both. I like them both for totally different reasons.

I go to a pirvate school right now and I'm kind of anxious to get back to a public school. Additionally, I loved the students at William and Mary. They were intellectually curious without being too grade concious, which is rare quality in college students. The negative to William and Mary? While Williamsburg is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, it's not New Orleans.

Tulane is at the top of my list because of its location and its geographic diversity. I can't imagine that there's a school with more geographic diversity than Tulane. It's got a preppy, rich white kid element that I'm trying to escape but I think there's enough diversity on campus for me to find my niche. Plus, its not nearly as Greek as a lot of other schools in the South (a big plus for me).

tulsadem...you may be wrong about the Greek life. Haha. 8/10 floors in Monroe dorm were all completely greek...the partying is absolutely out of control on campus!!!!!

I believe the statistic is that 30% of the population is Greek. All fraternities and sororities are off campus, so it is there if you want it, but you have to look for it.

I'm going to be in Butler. A few mothers whose sons were in Butler as freshmen have commented that the frenzy around Greek life wasn't nearly as strong compared to the other dorms.

While I'm pretty dead set on living in Butler, does anyone know much about Patterson? Sounds interesting and the kind of people who choose to live there as freshmen kinda sound like my type of people :-)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to Tulane. I already sent in my deposit and housing contract, but I'm really worried about the crime rate in nola. My dad used to teach at Tulane and recently one of his friends (another tulane professor) was robbed at gun point. Now my dad wants me to reconsider my decision to go to Tulane and although I honestly love it there and it's always been my first choice, I don't know if it's worth it. I know the campus itself is relatively safe but there have still been incidences and once you step off the campus, it's a whole other story. This is so frustrating!

I Decided On Tulane 2012 Today. :)

Go for paterson! The people there are way more chill and diverse than the nerdy types in Butler that never go out--I lived in paterson for 2 years and loved it, forget about the 'wellness living' BS they don't force you into it, but you'll have the option of weekend trips and exercise classes that others have to pay for; I loved the people there so much our floor just transplanted itself again for sophomore year and all my best friends are from there. Butler is gross, has slow elevators, and no in-room sinks (which takes a toll on hygiene) which I know because a lot of my best friends also lived there freshman year. There were only 2 people that went greek freshman year on my floor, but nearly everyone knows how to have a good time (safely) which is more than sharp and monroe can say (those kids are nuts);

Alas, living in paterson affords the perfect view of the line of ambulances that show up at Sharp hall around 9pm every day of the week.

I'm going to live in Wall because I really don't want communal bathrooms and I like the student involvement and I already have a roommate who also wants to live in Wall. But otherwise, I was definitely considering Paterson. :-D
