I've heard a lot of SEAS students go on to business school, law school and medical school. I know that medical schools favor strong GPAs as well. What engineering major would be most advantageous (in terms of curriculum and high GPA) for a future medical student and hopefully a doctor?

Thank you very much for all your responses!

Relevancy probably Biomedical engineering. GPA-wise probably EMS. EMS isn’t a very useful degree, though.

Computer Science, Operations Research (Financial Engineering), Electrical Engineering.

From Class of 2012 onwards, the number of BME students pursuing pre-med has dwindled. Feel free to check the pre-med requirements as well as BME requirements. The classes don’t match up as well as they used to.

In terms of what I’ve seen, students tend to choose majors that are flexible or offer advantages in terms of intersection of classes for requirements and technical electives. These majors include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and Chemical Engineering.

Sorry wifey but I don’t know one person in my year who is pre-med and Financial Engineering. Almost impossible without taking 6 classes a semester for 4-6 semesters. Just check the requirements yourself.

I think it is biomedical, which Columbia is pretty good at.
