For current applicants (class of 09)...WHY is Penn your first choice?

I think it's just Crystal and I. And I don't really count since my parents no longer work there and my rec letter has not been received. Even if it has, i don't think Amy Gutman will read it or my rec actually mentions anything about our president. (yes our)

haha okay thanks for making me feel better.

Our president?

So new topic:

What do you guys think about wearing and having penn gear before we've gotten in?

I've got a Wharton shirt and lanyard. I've stopped wearing the Wharton shirt ever since I started my apps just bcuz of superstition. But I still use my lanyard.

When people comment on it, I'm just like yeah I wanna go there. And since a lot of my friends have no idea how competitive these schools are, they always tell me -- "oh dude, ur gonna get in fo shoo dude" and then I have to explain that it's hard. And then I take my keys off my lanyard for a couple of days cuz I feel like its bad luck to use it. Then I take it out and use it again once I've realized it is annoying to have keys w/o a lanyard.

yeah I hate it when people say, "You'll get in" or when I freak out about other apps, they'll say, "it's okay. You are going to Penn anyways."

So far, I chose not to buy any Penn apparels just cuz 1. bad luck. 2. I just don't feel confident wearing it before I get in. Same goes with other schools, I just don't buy anything when I haven't gotten in or have no relationship with the school other than visiting it.

I do have lots of Penn stuff though...from lanyards to coffee cups... oh yeah I even got my braces at Penn Dental school haha. But before I get in, I try to avoid using any Penn related stuff. I'm not superstitious at all, but for college apps..I can't afford not to be superstitious in case...

LOL! dbsklove I'm watching Worlds Within too! I just finished downloading episode 11 but I have some massive tests coming up so I'll have to abstain for about 2 weeks. There's only 5 episodes left!

I think if I got in, I'd really like to meet the other penn nuts on CC next year...

drama party at penn! ^^
i just got back from my interview (thanks for all the good lucks!)! she was really nice and told me i asked her really challenging questions that made her have to think back (she graduated six years ago) haha. i asked her about penn traditions and she told me about how during the football games, they would throw red and blue toast (yes, bread) down to the field to celebrate. there was even a special machine that cleaned up the toast after! i thought it was pretty cool!
ehhh i just realized, you guys may probably already know about this, and i'm just.... really behind. haha

haha the toast!!! I've gone to the football games a few times. The toasts were crazy. It was like rain.

Sorry, bringing it back off topic but I have to answer dbsklove (and yes, I could pm but whatever).
Umm...basically anything that's been on tv recently (Japanese love their music-television) News, Kanjani8, Exile, Arashi, Greeen, others that I don't know the names of...B'z, though I think when I saw them on tv they didn't dance? Music is pretty catchy though. Hey, any chance any one knows a good iste where I can download Japanese music? Limewire only has so much, and I'm not going to pay 30 bucks for a cd (CDs and DVDs are SOOO expensive here, it's ridiculous).

soysauce, Japanese tv...well, at least what my family watches, there isn't much to censor? though Japanese tv is probably the most ridiculous thing ever (love the game shows). Did you live in Tokyo (probably)? Any chance you went to an international school while you did? I have a bunch of friends who used to go to places like ASIJ, SIS (I think those are the initials)...I wonder if we have any mutual acquaintances, haha.

ok dude i'm just tossing this out there in the open because it's sort of on-topic with the off-topic discussion of dramas. pakistani dramas are epic and indian movies are official.

you guys have to see some.

about this penn clothing thing. i mean -- i feel you on this one. people automatically assume that one will get in wherever, and it's sort of frustrating that no one knows the absolute competition that is penn. but whatever.

personally, i don't wear any penn gear, but that's because i've never bothered buying any. i just don't think i deserve to wear it until i am on of the quakers -- until i am at one with the institution.

penn. toast. buttery toast. i love it.

we watched a movie about Indian movies/Bollywood in one of my classes (it was in Japanese, unfortunately), but yeah, Indian movies look pretty cool. Didn't even know pakistani dramas existed.
Well, it's already been stated that there's going to be a drama watching party when we all get in crosses fingers so yeah.
And you know, this isn't off topic because the topic is "why do you want to go to penn?" and obviously our common interests uh...yeah, my brain isn't working well enough/haven't used English enough lately to make this BS sound good. Anyway.

Oh, Penn clothing. I bought a tshirt when I visited. I've only bought gear from two colleges, Stanford and Penn (because if I weren't applying early to Penn, I would have to Stanford), bc I don't want to have a collection of gear from assorted colleges. But I bought clothing from the schools I felt a connection to. It's just kind of weird. (ok, 3 colleges if you count my brother's school, UMiami--and please excuse the incoherency...)

Ugh wearing school gear is so annoying. I only have a Northwestern sweatshirt because I spent the summer there, but when I wore it to school people kept on asking me if I was going there or if I was applying. There's just so much tension, especially among seniors. And it's really annoying to have to say no, I haven't even applied yet. Just chill! haha so I haven't that sweatshirt to school in a while.

lol i think i'm the only one w/o ANY college shirts. some at my school have a gazillion.

Ah I picked up an XL sweatshirt at Stanford...but as it is an XL I never really wore it (a friend made the observation that I look like a marsh-mellow in it)

lol why would pick a size XL? i never go beyond XS ha

we go from freakishly large to freakishly small...

^^lmfao^^^^

Lol I think an L would probably have fitted me nicely...except I had a wildly optimistic projection of how fast I would grow from Junior Year on...

freakishly large to freakishly small = diversity!

Somehow I don't like how college T-shirts or any like free program T-shirts fit me. Since I'm skinny, I feel like a clothe hanger inside...lmao maybe not that extreme.

Lol@how far this thread as diverged. This is exactly like a facebook group no?

for sweatshirts, i like 'em a little bit bigger cuz feeling like a marshmellow can be good somtimes. haha i do have class of '09 hoodie and it's kinda big on me. but it's so comfy.
