For everyone who graduated with a ~2.3 academic highschool GPA

Maize, what were your college stats, what did you write your essay on, and what was your reason for transferring? All that information would be most appreciated!

My high school grades were awful (Cs, Ds and Fs) and I missed 80 days during my senior year - just didn't want to go. The VP of my school said, "Make sure you remember to show up for graduation." I then took a few years off to work and eventually signed up for a course at a community college. That went well, and I decided to enroll full time. I ended up as valedictorian of my CC class, and transferred to a top-level womens' college, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and then went to grad school. For me, it was all about motivation, maturity, and developing a good work ethic.

I had what I guess would be a 3.1 (11.63 out of 15.00)

What really killed me was getting A's straight through the year and then just skipping the finald...

That really REALLY killed me. So you'll look at my transcript and it will be 1st A, 2nd A, Midterm A, 3rd A, 4th A, Final exame F...

So pretty much by not taking the final I changed what was an A average for the year into a C or C+ range

Pretty stupid, especially since I did this in nearly every class I took

I am bumping this thread because I was just admitted into Georgetown as a sophomore transfer with a 2.3 HS GPA.

Keep trying hard and you will get there.

Good for you. You gonna attend?

I still hope my decision won't come for another few days because I wrote another essay to the commitee reasserting my comitment to G'Town and I hope they get a chance to read it. Just out of interest, where do you live? I'm up in Maine so maybe thats why I haven't recieved news yet...

Oh also, what was the envelope like? Was it fat? Or was it a huge manilla thing?

I live in Sugar Land, Texas. The envelope is a regular one, but it is thick because there are three documents within. You can tell it is the one:)

Thats so cool!!! Yeah, the manilla envelope from Tufts had 3 BOOKS in it and weighed probally 5 pounds so it was obvious...

This is good news though, depending where you are in Texas you could be farther away than me. Maybe they will read my extra essay. I think I was able to buy some time since I only had my interview this past week...

Phat though. You enrolling or you gonna hold out for your dream school? Man, DC is hard to pass up son...

I do not know. I will most probably go, but.... I was really not expecting to be accepted.

The letter is dated May 17th, by the way.

Thanks man, good luck at G'Town

Good Luck on being admitted:)!

^I'd say my prospects are shabby. I think this being my second transfer will kill me and I wrote a gushing, perhaps overly optimistic letter to G'Town a few months ago that I kind of wish I could take back. It was hearfelt though, but probally too frank.

I do hold out hope that most of the overly qualified applicants are the ones who prowl around here.

Oh well, I sure as heck didn't think I'd be admitted to any schools last time. Theres always a chance I suppose.

Thanks for the support homie :)

On second thought, I do not think transferring twice is a problem. I have spoken to an admissions officer at Rice about my doing a year elsewhere and transferring in, and she was receptive to the idea.

Perhaps we can label it as one of the great myths of transfer admissions, along with the myth that it is more difficult to transfer Ivy-to-Ivy than CC-to-Ivy.

Nice. Yeah, I've never heard anyone say anything negative about it, but personally I thought it might give the impression that I'm a malcontent.

So long as you do not complain about your school, you will be fine. Just be positive.

Hi there... where are you guys studying?

nspeds....You are attending Rice? I wanted to stay in Houston (I live in Memorial) and go to Rice, but they weighed heavily on SAT's and I didn't even take them back in high school. Oh well...

No, I am attending HBU right now. My dream school is Rice;)

That's right. You told me that. I'm apologize.

^You guys aren't Rockets fans are you?
