Hey, I just have a few quick questions about GPA/Percentile ranking and the way that top schools like Yale and Harvard see them.

1) My school only provides weighted GPAs on our transcripts. Will selective schools recalculate that weighted GPA to get an unweighted GPA? (for me, weighted is 4.3something/4.43, and unweighted is probably around 3.8something)

2) My (guesstimated; like I said, my school doesn't give them to us) unweighted GPA is on the lower end (3.8something) but my percentile rank is at least top 10% (maybe top 5%) - will these schools care that my GPA is kinda low since my rank is pretty high? I'm taking the most rigorous courses available to me (Two B+'s, one B, rest are A's and A+'s).

3) Assuming that these schools recalculate my weighted GPA and discover my unweighted GPA of 3.8something, will they care if I'm top 10% and have a 2300 superscored SAT?

I'm sorry if these questions are kind of annoying! I just wanna make sure that I have a shot at these schools.
Thanks guys!

1). Yes, they will. Take a look at this supplement form (second page):

They will report your weighted GPA and the scale that they use.

2). In a sea of 4.0 applicants, schools like HYPS use rigor to help cut their class. If your courses are truly the most difficult available, they won’t mind a few B’s.

3). Absolutely. Are you only applying to colleges that superscore?

@loquatical for the most part, yes. I think a few request all scores (but I’ve heard they usually consider the highest scores anyway). Regardless, my highest single sitting is a 2270, which isn’t too far off a 2300 (it just sounds less impressive )

in regards to question 1: Well, to me it looks like I could report my GPA as 4.3/4.43 on that form, as long as I indicate that it’s a weighted GPA… So will colleges re-evaluate that weighted GPA themselves?

in regards to question 2: While I am taking the most rigorous courses my school offers (and have taken a few outside community college courses), the schedule probably isn’t too difficult looking when compared to the schedules of students with a million APs (my school doesn’t offer AP’s). I am taking the most difficult courses available to me, though. Good enough?

Yep, just check that weighted GPA box on the Common App. For some insight on college “reweighting” and GPA calculation, see http://www.possibilityu.com/how-calculate-your-“real”-high-school-gpa (I bookmarked the link when I was lurking a while back; can’t remember who posted it).

Admissions officers understand that every school has different courses available, so you’ll be compared with other applicants from your school.
