For film production (what S19 wants), Syracuse would be the choice. But other factors important to him include:
- school spirit (good sports teams, particularly football)
- connections to LA film/tv industry (S19 would apply for VPA, not Newhouse)
- weather (closest to normal 4 seasons, least extreme)
Basically, he wants a true university experience with top quality film/tv and connections to LA. Affordability for us (EFC 0) leans toward U-M, but only slightly. Both would be close to affordable for us.
I can move the post to the respective college forums if that’s a better place for this question.
We visited Syracuse and liked it especial for the school spirit ( it offers a lot of clubs and activities for kids to participate ) . We also were told that they have good connections and reputation. Weather - you will definitely will get 4 seasons, but it will be cold in the winter. My DS will mots likely apply there next year.
Hey @Ultramarine777 ! I was just about to reply to your thread about film programs, but @jtmoney said it better than I could.
Regardless of which film program, the aim is to educate the students about the “fundamentals of film theory and the art form of filmmaking”, as opposed to a career prep school teaching people how to use equipment and software. You’ll find some schools that emphasize the latter, but those are the ones you want to avoid. You can learn that stuff on YouTube. Quality film programs will teach the students WHY not necessarily WHAT.
Thanks for the info on Syracuse. Coming from TX we can’t imagine what real cold weather is like, but I don’t think it will be a showstopper.
