This thread is esp. dedicated to HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS who still have more than a year to prepare for college and its admissions process. It is a place for juniors (or rising juniors) to share their feelings, goals, concerns, and most of all-- GOOD SOLUTIONS and LONG TERM FORMULAS that can help most juniors (including me) to get into the institutions they desire.

This is the new thread for juniors of the class of 2008.

JIMMY@KILLARNEY's old thead can be found here.

Perhaps several important lessons I've learned from my junior year are,
1) Study for the SATs (they ARE important, and quite time-consuming to improve)

2) Make sure that GPA remains solid (don't let it slip, this is your most important year, plus it's last chance to make any MAJOR changes before the real admissions game begins next summer).

3) Spend time and effort the All-too-important ECs. Try to dig out your childhood imagination, and think of something you'd really like to do and something that will make a difference. All in all, Focus. (however, if certain ECs are distracting your attention from studying SATs and maintaining your academic performance, scale them down or drop them immediately. There's nothing worse than a bad GPA/SAT score).

I'm 08!!! Is it a bad thing if I don't have that much work? My school admin is ****** up since it won't let me take AP Chem next to my other five solids.
What is the suggested pace for starting SAT I/IIs and stuff?
I'm taking my SAT II (chinese) in November, and my SAT I in May and other SAT II stuff in June too.

I took two SatIIs this past June. and took two APs exams too. . Taking my first ACT in december taking first SAT I in april.. Taking 5 AP's this year.. Chem, Spanish, US history, Psych, English Lit. and pre- caculus honors .. very vry busy. plus I am in the marching band, key club, and Boy scouts trying to get my Eagle badge.

HEYYY 08!! cant believe the admissions process isnt too far off!! i took sat II's two weeks ago in US History and Literature... im doing ib diploma and in 11 ecs that i wont bother to list out! this year though, school is actually pretty fun! IB is hell but at least its semi-interesting

Hey - here's some advice regarding EC's from an '07er that I really wish I coulda done when I had a chance::

Keep up good rapport with your teachers. Especially the ones that are going to give you recs. This is important, and consider giving them cards around holidays, and even telling them that you're gonna be coming to them with recommendations right before summer...

SAT/ACT - important... someone above me said to study for them, of course I agree, but also SAT II's are important too (it seems like alotta you guys are workin' on that...)

EC's :: Make sure you LOVE what you do. Seriously. Don't join a ton of EC's that don't mean much to you - and then drop out. Try and start your own, if you like it well enough. Aim for leadership if you're outgoing enough, though being an outgoing person is not a requirement.

Read! Short essays, novels, etc... Not only for fun, not only for improvement on SAT CR sections, not only for class, but for essay improvement! It's insane to start writing your college essays right now, so just look at stuff that is interesting. Short story format is great for the college essay, and practice assuming your voice in your papers that you write for class.

Good luck everyone! Seems college admission gets harder every year. :D

Another '08er... or something. Yea it's hard to imagine that a year from now we'll enter the frenetic stage of college admissions. I still think it's too early for current Juniors to be on these discussion boards. It's way too addictive though.

Yeah you guys are right, we shouldn't be looking at these sites but it really is addicting. Because of this site I know more about colleges than most seniors at my school.

I'm def. ready. I actually want to get out of this stage of life so badly I can not wait for college application time to come.

when i talked with my GC about colleges, she was awestruck of how much i knew about college admissions and all that jazz. (thanks to CC of course)
