Go to collegeboard.com, go to "prepare for the SAT", go to download practice test, and your set. Have fun :)

Yeah, most of you are partly right--don't think too much about what college you are going to be attending. However, it's still not a bad idea to start preparing for fulfilling the requirements of colleges you desire to attend. I'm heading for the ivies, so I started packing myself with ECs and higher acedamic standards since the beginning of my sophomore year. Yet, I do agree that it's always better to stay on top of things in the junior year, and esp. pay lots of attention to SATs, quarterly acemdamic performance, as well as ECs.

DarkRulerII, thanks alot!!

Is Junior considered as the MOST IMPORTANT period of your high school career?

Yeah, it usually is.

I'm taking 4 AP classes: Calculus, Chemistry, Language, and US History. I'm also self studying Psychology, and maybe one more. I'm going for National AP Scholar this year! (two 5's and a 4 last year)

I'm taking the SAT in November and - if needed - again in January. I'm taking the SAT II Math IIC is December and the SAT II Chemistry and US History in June.

I'm so not scared about the SAT - which is, ironically, freaking me out. I don't know why I'm not nervous. I just want 750+ on M/W and 700+ on CR and I'll be good. It's just the SAT :P.

thanks alot theoneo
anyway, is anyone here planning to apply for the ivies?

????? I'm kinda desperate to know this. haha

Your welcome for the test. I will def. apply Cornell, maybe ED. I will also probably apply to Penn and maybe Dartmouth.

Don't kill me y'all but what does AP stand for? I come from a small school. Maybe 200 kids high school fresh-senior. We have no honors courses. I still One upped y'all :)..
I'm going to college academy early. I will get an Associates of Science Degree when i graduate High school. But alas most of my credits probly won't transfer to U of mich. And it won't help my major.
HEHE.. sorry. I am too COCKY.. I am looking at University of Michigan. I wanna Major in Political Science (I LOVE IT!!!!) and theology or philosophy (i'm roman catholic and love thinking.)

hmm.. I'm scared.. School starts in 2 weeks.. Move in to Northwest Missouri State University is sunday. I like my roommate. AHH i am scared. College at a junior. My sister went there. She had a classmate who was 14.. SCARY.. Genius.. Brilliant Girl. LOL...

Have fun y'all.. and ooh.. to the Councelor person.. uhh.. iwannabe_Brown.. is this a bad program if i don't wanna major in Science Math or computing? OOOH. Is it bad if i decide what college to go to in my Case.. since i am just a junior but going to college with college people? And living on campus and stuff.. Thanks :)

BYE y'all.

Hm... I bet I'll apply to Ivies. Columbia is one of my favorite schools, and Yale has been a dream for a few years now. Princeton is right next door, so I might as well hand it to one of the adcoms in person :P. Cornell has a great environmental science program, which I'm interested in. Finally, there's Harvard. I guess I'll apply just for the sake of it.

That's 5/8. I'm not too keen on Penn or Dartmouth, and Brown is just... there.

According to my little knowledge bank, AP is a type of course called the "Advanced Placement". It is designed and offered by most high schools for those who are looking for some kind of "challenge" or trying to "get ahead" from their current regular course studies. AP courses vary from English to Calculus to U.S. Gov't and to Chemistry/Physics and a variety of other fields of study. Over all, the purpose of AP courses is to give students a chance to learn more in a short amount of time before going into the tough stuff in college.

Hey guys! I am a Junior this year and I am taking AP English I and AP Biology. Since my school does not offer APs to sophmores, these are my first APs. I could take AP US Hist but I'm really really scared if I'll be able to get decent grades on it...so I was wondering if anyone could help me decide.

-iwannabe_brown, why is it so disgusting that someone has prepared for the SAT?
-shimmer1331, I wouldn't take AP Bio and APUSH the same year, unless you have an extremely good memory and can read fast.
-theono, make sure you study for the SAT II Chem - it's harder than the AP test. . .I screwed myself on it.

What colleges are you guys planning to apply to?
I'm hoping that I'll get into Stanford, since it's on the West Coast. But any HYPSM school would be awesome. . .

I'm wondering if I can get National AP Scholar next year. . .I have taken three AP's last year (chem, apush, stats), and got fives, and I am taking AP: Biology, Physics, Economics, Calculus, Lang and Government this year, but I think Econ, government and stats count as half-credits. . .or does it not matter for the scholar award? Does anyone know?

And is anybody thinking about applying to RSI next summer?

I think you can get National AP Scholar next year if u keep getting atleast 4 on all ur AP exams..btw..What is RSI

Do you HAVE TO get straight As in Junior year in order to meet the acedemic standards of those ivies?

Some info about AP's: If you come from a school where only like 4 AP classes are offered, and you really can't take them until your senior year, the colleges can't/won't take it against you. However, if your school offers like 20 AP classes, well, you better take quite a few. It just depends on your opportunities... Colleges get a sheet or something saying what your school offers, and this is how they decide if you really took the most rigorous courses or not.

Also, having a few B's total won't kill you...

It's really impressive if you do independent studies--- SO if you like Physics and U.S. history and you self study and get 5's on both, that'll help you.

My school offers 15 AP courses but by senior year I will probably have only 4 Ap courses and the rest will be a mix of regular and honors courses. ( I moved to the US in sophomore year and my previous school didnt have Ap courses ). I might self study Ap Economics and World history but thats about it... Does that look bad?

As a rising senior, lemme just say something.

Don't worry about the actual SAT until at LEAST March. You'll get smarter and do better. Guarenteed.

Also, don't worry about colleges until you take that March SAT. Then start looking at schools, plan places to visit during spring break and stuff, etc. Start broad and look at what the schools offer in terms of what you want to study.

You will have a completly different list of colleges at the end of sophmore and the end of junior year. Junior year is a big year in terms of everything.

i'm going to be a junior and I'm taking College Algebra Trig (it's the second hardest class offered to juniors is that bad?) I'm not sure if that's AP or not. AP spanish, and AP US History. In total i have 5 honors classes. Has anyone taken AP US? is it hard, i've heard some scary stuff about it.

Next year I plan on taking AP Biology, AP political science, and AP economics. Anybody know if that'll be tough? Will colleges see that I've taken these my senior year? poly sci, and econ are only a semester long, so they're not going to see one of them. will that count against me?
