for JUNIORS who are ready to get onto THE PERILOUS ROAD

We live in the real world okay, the SAT is not some easy test unless your a genius or a loser who only spends their time studying. Dont be too confident because those scores are gonna slap you in the face. And the prepping all summer I dont buy it because I said the same thing and I studied for about two days. If you want to get into a good school a lot of involvment in extracurricular activities is a must. That means you probably going to be busy with work, band, acting etc.. and you wont have the time to study for a retarted test which is only one factor in your addmissions process. Honestly who wants to waste their life studying for a stupid test life happens.. just be aware. Also only a small percentage of students are national merit scholars and the scholarship is not based soley on your test score. They review your extracurricular activities, grades, and achievements. You also have to consider that there are a crap load of students who are just as qualified as you are and a limited number of winners. The AP tests are in may and most students take their subject test in june because they have done intensive preparation for the previous AP exam(like chem). Trust me its the smart thing to do. Also dont buy the BS that the colleges take in consideration your highest scores if they see someone who took the test once and scored well versus one who had taken the test repeatedly who do you think they are gonna think has a greater intellectual capability. Take my advice the ACT is much easier because it covers material actually taught in schools. So if you want to waste your life on one stupid test when there is an easier option so go ahead you going to kick yourself in the donkey in the end. Take it from somebody who already went through your umpcoming stress.

I'm taking SAT I this october

AND I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE IT until the last minute, seriously. Since during the summer after your junior year, you are going to be packed with work related to college applications: writing essays, getting recommedation, further more polishing your EC list, etc.

Im going throught that process now and its pretty easy the only "hard" part is the essays and colleges have similar prompts. Trust me dont over stress, you and i are alike in the sense that you want have things done early but that ended up not working for me. Just focus on preparing for the AP exams they are much more important to me because where ever you go, they will save you lots of money in books and tuition.

We RARELY offer AP courses here in Canada, it's useless to worry about them so much. Besides, I already took the most amount of honor courses I can. So, I really REALLY want to start thinking about the essays and the admissions requirements now, and I'm already setting my target on specific schools. It's a good time to do these things earlier since that will leave me with a little more time to find areas where I still need improvement so I can mend them before hand.

But anyway, this is my plan for the upcoming junior term. Perhaps different people have different ways of managing their paths toward college- but for me, I'm ready to get on with my plans now.

omg y are you all soo smart!!!! i feel so dumb here. where are all the regualr people who gets a few B's!? im only taking one AP my junior year and in my sophmore year without any honors or AP's i've gotten 3 B's. Does that just ruin my chance of getting in UCLA UCSD? I am going to take the SAT in October. very early but just to do the real thing and improve on what i need to do. My EC's are not incredible but i have a few things. your all making me so worried now =/

Seriously guys...DON'T take the SAT in October. It isn't worth it OR smart. I started taking standardized tests in March. 3 testing dates later, I walked away with near perfect test scores. Take the SAT II's in May, right during AP testing.

Take the SAT I in March, June, and once in fall if needed. Don't fricken fret about it now. You have your PSAT and stuff.

And, please, don't worry and fret about the PSAT. It is just a practice after all. It doesn't mean anything.

Why can't I take SAT I in October when I've prepared for nearly a year already and have just finished taking a SAT Test Prep course?
Besides, it would leave me with much more time to improve if I failed to get the best scores.

Summer - prep for the SAT... seriously
October/November - PSAT and first SAT
December/January - second SAT
May - AP's and corresponding SAT II's
June - Finals and other SAT II's

Why do several things at once? Focus on the SAT first, then AP's, then SAT II's (or take them before junior year or in the fall of senior year)

I've prepared for SAT I since April. We RARELY have AP courses in Canada, theoneo, so it doesn't really matter it corresponds with SAT's or not.

Im done spartan pheonix is right. SAT II corresponds with the AP tests take them in june or may not earlier but whatever do just do what you think is smart(im being very sarcastic).

Look outside the name-brand institutions.

How can I take AP on my own outside of class? (my school doesn't seem to offer any AP course, with the exception of three honors classes)

You can independently study for the AP exam and then take the test at your school or another school nearby that gives the test.

What do you guys think about independent study for Psychology AP test...is this a harder AP? My School does not offer this AP but I will be taking intro. to psych this year.

My school doesn't offer ANY AP courses. So where do you think is the best place to obtain self study materials?

Quite stressed out by the prospect of the heavy workloads and the perilous college admissions process!

Hey,I'm a junior (graduating early). I'm only taking 1 AP class (Art History, but self-studying for AP Psychology, AP World History, and AP Language, because my school doesn't offer these courses, except Psychology (conflicts with my schedule)). Next year I will be taking AP U.S. History, AP Spanish V, AP Literature. Here is my plan with testing..

Summer/Sept.: Prep for PSAT
Oct.: Take PSAT (hopefully get to be a semi-finalist)
May: SAT and APs
June: SAT II's
October: Retake SAT, if I don't like the first score

Jimmy, go ahead and take it if you are prepared, I just suggest caution if you aren't. I personally think it is tempting to rush in and waste one of my trys jsut to see wherer I'm at, but since you are well prepared, it shouldn't really matter, so go ahead. You are right that you will have more time to fix problems.

drummerdude, agreed.
