For Posse scholarship

How selective is the posse scholarship process? How many students apply and how many get accepted (percentage)? I was nominated but I’m not sure if I’m going to apply.

about 700 out of 4000 get it. very very competitive.

@somewheresmiling Thank you!

It depends on what city you live in. I live in Houston and for the Posse Houston (each city has a different set of Posse colleges and you can only go to the ones assigned to your city) there were 6 colleges this year and only 10 people are selected for each college. So about 60 each year for Posse Houston get the scholarship.

It’s very competitive of course. But this scholarship is based more on your personality than on your grades. You go to a bunch of interviews and they cut people after each round. After idk how many rounds they’ll assign you to a school based on your preference and then you go to more interviews until they pick their final 10 Posse scholars for each school. So yeah that’s the whole process for Posse Houston. My sister won it last year.

@nineteeth123
Could you share which college does your sister went to through posse? And what is her advise to a finalist from Posse houston?

First off, congrats on being a finalist (I’m assuming that you’re asking for advice b/c you’re a finalist)
and secondly, my sister went to Bryn Mawr college.
Tbh my friends have asked her for Posse advice and she always says the same generic things, of “just be yourself” or “say stuff that other people wouldnt say” and things like that. It’s just that from her POV Posse is based on your personality, and you can’t exactly change your personality to get this scholarship…so just be yourself and just hope for the best.

hey yall, posse scholar here from the 2015 selection! i was also selected from houston for the bmc posse. they told us that about 1300 kids began the selection process, but as only 10 kids per 6 colleges were selected, only 60 were chosen for our city. i know generic advice is really annoying and doesnt help much, but it really does depend on your personality. theyre looking for really driven individuals. not necessarily social, you can be as energetic as you want but if the passion for education and diversity isnt there then you wont be considered. highlight your leadership and people skills whenever you can i think.
