hey! i just wanted to start a thread for people hoping to apply to mcgill for the 2010 graduation year. i think it's my top choice. i'm am american, and i notice this is a really popular school for americans to apply. i'm kinda iffy on getting in. tell me what you think my chances are, or if you're applying this upcoming year! :-) i haven't visited yet, but from what i've read, it sounds like a great experience! montreal sounds like an amazing city.

SATIs Math - 780 Verbal - 750 Writing - 660

SATIIs APUS - 700 i haven't taken any others yet, but i'm going to take english and math

GPA - around 3.6, but it'll go up during senior year because i'm taking an easier schedule than my junior year

Extracurriculars - a lot, but i don't think McGill requires that in the application?

AP/IB classes throughout high school career
10th grade - AP US History
11th grade - AP Econ, IB English I, IB Spanish, IB History II, AP BC Calculus, IB TOK, IB Physics I
12th grade - AP Psychology, AP Stat, MV Calculus, IB English II, IB History II, IB TOK, IB Physics II

i hope that the fact that i took really hard classes balences out my not amazing GPA.

Don't feel like posting stats right now, but I'm another (perhaps less qualified in terms of standardized tests) 2010 American McGill hopeful!

of course youre iffy, everyones iffy. but based on your grades you're doing fine, good luck

your "not amazing gpa". heh. to be honest, i think the SATs are weighted more heavily. I mean, I got in with a 3.2 gpa and 1500 (old) SATs. When I talked to an admissions officer up there on my first visit she asked my SAT scores but didn't even bring up grades. granted, they may have gone a little easy on the gpa because i'm at a very competitive high school and I graduated a year early, but still, I think they are willing to give a bit of leniency if you have damn high marks on the boards, which you do. but i dont think you need leniency anyhow. time will tell. good luck with this year, i hated all the hurry up and wait.

i think that depends.. i mean, students in Canadian high schools do not have to write their SATs in order to get into any of the Canadian universities, so their GPAs mainly and ECs are counted heavier. as well, mcgill's known to put heavy emphasis on grades more than leadership or ECs..

Hmm, does anyone know McGill's average ACT score?

Does McGill accept the ACT in lieu of SAT + SATII's?

Thanks so Much!

I'm from Dobbs Ferry. Small world, isn't? :)

<---Heh, Pleasantville.

someone created a thread asking for their chances so I went to get them the link from the site to check their own chances, and since I remember checking it obsessively to make sure my scores were on par when I applied, I thought it would be appreciated in the collective 2010//chances thread. here ya go: http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad/requirements-specific/us/sat--scores/

I'm a Canadian Citizen but I'm currently living in Southern California and attending a high school here. Will the admissions go easier on me? McGill is my top choice right now.

I am in the same situation as you. You will be under either 'US High School', or IB category (If youre in IB). When it comes to tuition, just give them a copy of passport and you will be able to pay the domestic students' fees (4K i think).

GPA - Anywhere from 3.0 to 3.4...right now I estimate it is 3.2.

ACT - 27 :( GRR. Should have gotten more sleep, the length didn't help much either. I much prefer the SAT, seems more straight-forward even if it is longer.

SAT - 720M 650V/CR 650W

I might retake the SAT's before I send my McGill app (I wish I could apply early, I like it that much) since I KNOW I could get 800M. Hell I thought I got a 790 walking out of the place :(

SAT 2's - Taking in november. We'll see.

Small private school, maybe 10 people in my class. Fairly competitive, no class rankings. Only AP's offered: AP Calc. AP Bio and Env Sci are offered starting this year but will not fit as I need to take Chem. I am taking AP Calc.

Projected Major - Engineering (possibly Mechanical) OR BCom - not positive. Ideally I'd start out Engi and try to transfer to Management (BCom) if I don't like it. Anyone know if I can apply to 2 faculties at once? The Admin office was closed when I visited. Great planning on my part. The tour was great though.

Ah, I'm applying, but McGill isn't my first choice. I think I have a reasonably good shot?

public school in NJ
GPA 3.9 (uw), rank top 2%

SAT: 2250/1500 total, (750 each section)
Math 2C 800
Chemistry 790
US Hist 740
PSAT 233 (NM semifinalist)

AP English Language 5
AP Chem 5
AP US Hist 5
AP Calc BC 3 (AB 4) :-(

I'm also IB. (HL Chem, German B, Math, and Hist of Europe, SL English A1 and Economics)

Oh, and question: do I really need an "English" SAT II? The website says so, but I don't know if I trust that it knows what it's talking about. Especially because without writing the only "English" SATII would be lit.

mcgill is my first choice right now, it would be amazing to go there but i'm not sure what my chances are.

SATI - Math 710 Verbal 750 Writing 720 (taking them again in october)
SATIIs - Math IIc 800, Biology M 720, Hebrew 640
GPA 3.8, class rank isn't that high though because i'm at a private school where everyone's an overachiever
Extracurriculars kind of weak, but I don't think mcgill cares about those too much
AP English Language 5
AP Biology 4
AP US History 4

While I'm not necessarily above and beyond everything Mcgill expects, hopefully I have good chances of being accepted?
