For Those waitlisted and Glitched!

"Mr. Hirsh said Delaware stood by its original decisions. However, if the university winds up drawing on its waiting list to fill any remaining slots this spring and summer, the admissions committee plans to first re-read applications from those students who received the false congratulatory messages."

Looks like Glitch apps move to the head of the wait list line..

For damage control , they should have offered admission to the waitlisted and offer waitlist to the denied. Too late now , NYTIMES is on it.

My DD was glitched and we have heard nothing from UDel. She hasn’t gotten a letter telling her if she is waitlisted or denied; and, contrary to what they told the NY Times, we were not contacted via phone call or email and advised of her admission status. While I understand a mistake was made, they were able to identify those students who accessed the page. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t contact those students. Again I say, integrity matters, and I have yet to see anything good from UDel.

My DS was glitched and waitlisted and we have not heard ANYTHING from Delaware- no email or no phone

“Looks like Glitch apps move to the head of the wait list line…”

I don’t believe that is very fair to other people who are on the wait list, and didn’t jump on an assumption.

Workerbeez, I am a neutral observer here since I don’t have a child who has applied this year. However, those students involved did not jump on an assumption. If you go to your Blue Hen page and you are congratulated and sent to a link to register for an accepted students day, you have every right to think you are accepted.

wait, dkitty: you haven’t even received a letter yet? in NJ? I think a call is in order…

Mattmossemom, If I read it correctly, they didn’t get the congratulations until they clicked into the schedule a visit link.
I’ve thought since the time I applied, when anyone who knew about it went on to see if there was acceptance info before the letters arrived in the mail. I think now like I thought then…they should completely disable any acceptance links until the mail has had a decent chance to get to the student or make it an all online notification.
Maybe it’s just me, but if I were in that situation and hadn’t heard on Monday, I’d been on the phone that day, not waiting.
I am so sorry for the people who thought they got in but didn’t. But I still think UD is an awesome place.

"I don’t believe that is very fair to other people who are on the wait list, and didn’t jump on an assumption. "

They were not assuming, they were eager to see their status, and THAT shows they REALLY want to go to UD. They couldn’t wait!! So I’ve no problem with the kids who thought they were in, getting a break and rising to the top. They have already shown an increased level of interest in being at UD. Is that any different from the kid who returns the wait list invite right away with a note and any new accomplishments, etc.

As for fair, was it fair that they got the invite and told everyone only to have it vanish?

PLUS! It was not said that anyone would automatically rise to the top and get in, it was said that the ‘glitchers’ would have their applications re-read first.

My son was one of the students who had the glitch, when he went to his page, in the blue box it said reservations for admitted students, and to sign up for a accepted students visit. This was a brand new message that night. He did not just sign up for a visit, he was instructed to do so. I know it said you would be notified by mail, but this was a new message that came on his private blue hen page. He never did sign up right away and when we went back to the page it was missing.I just wanted to clarify this. We then received a letter he was denied.

“Looks like Glitch apps move to the head of the wait list line…”

Congratulations to those going to UDel!!!

Wait, I just read that the University of Delaware has started accepting kids off the waitlist already? I am trying to catch up and read everything but maybe some one can give me a crash course? I was waitlisted at UD and was told they had to wait until after the May 1 deadline and that I would have to send my 3rd period grades and my final transcript. I haven’t even received my grades for this marking period (but did well enough) Are you guys just checking your UD webpage or did you get emails? very confused!

BraveU-called it man! So is it all 61 glitchkids? or like the 12? or just those wait listed from the 61? or those wait listed from the 12? or those who didn’t make a public stink or make waves ? They letting u guys attend ur original Decision day choice? Also, are they being cool with financial aid and stuff?

I’m guessing the 12 who were waitlisted. Maybe people who weren’t involved in the glitch got accepted too I’m not too sure! But we are being treated exactly the same. We can go to decision days, I got very little financial aid (I didn’t expect much) but I did get some!

Wareintheworld-I was told the same thing but some people have been getting off the waitlist early. We don’t know if it is just the kids who were glitched earlier in March or what

Its the 35 or so kids that were waitlisted and glitched. The 12 people that accepted the decision day were denied I believe

wilkey- Not all 12 who reserved a DD were denied. My D was one of the kids who scheduled a decision day. From reading posts it is a mixed bag. Some of the glitchers who are now admitted scheduled a DD, others waited and saw the invite vanish before they were able to schedule.

My son was one of the “12 angry men” (can’t hold back on the glitch puns…) and he was initially waitlisted. Letter arrived next day with the whole “we accepted 588 off the waitlist last year pitch” He was never really interested in Delaware (I loved the idea though) so he never responded. I was like “take the spot” he said it should go to a kid who REALLY wants to go (not his mum) and that he also was convinced any WL acceptance would have been the result of the glitch and me ****in his way in, so it was a matter of principle too. Of course…had UD been a top contender on his own list of favorites I’m sure his “principles” might have been a tad different? So happy for all those who went through the glitch thing with me and their “son’s of glitches” …THERE I GO AGAIN. I still think it’s a great school and am pleased that Delaware was able to save face whilst “doing the right thing” GO KICK SOME AS kids!!!

@udel15 well then good! Haha I was told the 12 who had registered were all denied. But good for you!

ps just ordered 2 UD hats, a UD shirt, and a UD sweatshirt in the hopes that I haven’t been glitched again :D

GO FIGHTIN BLUE HENS!!!

HAHA! D has sweatshirt purchased after her first tour, but has been looking at the pants now. No glitch this time!!! Best of luck this Fall, and again, CONGRATS!

“Haha I was told the 12 who had registered were all denied.”
Gracious Wilkey that’s troubling. Did you hear that from someone at the school? When we got the call as one of the 12 we were told there were waitlisted AND denied kids in the pool of 12.The waitlist letter was obviously mailed BEFORE the glitch and dated as much. The school reported the same to the media…
“Officials said 12 of the 75 students who registered for the event had been wait-listed or denied admission. By Saturday, the correct link was up and running and the 12 students were contacted via e-mail Sunday about the mistake.”
I’d be very interested if you heard from an official anything else, perhaps you could PM me with the details?
